"Marine Iraq War vet receives death threat on car while out shopping"

QUEENSBURY, N.Y. (NEWS10) – A simple trip to the store ended with a veteran getting a hateful letter left on his car.

When a local Iraq War veteran went shopping Thursday morning, he did not expect to find an anonymous note with ugly language left on his car.

The letter blasted the Marine for having a Purple Heart and serving overseas. It stated, “All of you Islamaphobe vets deserve to die.”

The note has people shaking their heads. Some call the author pathetic.

“It’s just shocking,” Ann Lanoir said. “It’s just ignorant. That’s the way I feel. I feel like some punk wrote it.”

“Makes me sick to my stomach,” Navy veteran Robert LaPrairie said. “To me, it’s an act of terrorism really.”

“I just think it’s awful,” John Mohring said. “It’s very terrible. Veterans are our heroes.”

NEWS10 ABC showed the note to Lt. Steven Stockdale from the Warren County Sheriff’s Office to determine if the person who wrote it could face charges.

“That’s the first thing I look for Rachel [Yonkunas],” he said. “When we see something like that – is there any potential criminality?”

Stockdale said it is illegal to leave a note on a windshield, but he said the biggest disappointment is that the author thought writing the letter was okay.

“Communication these days has gotten very easy for people who want to stay anonymous,” he said. “And it takes a lot more courage to strap on an 80 pound pack and go to the Middle East and fight for your country than it does to scribble on a note and leave it cowardly behind on somebody’s windshield.”

I am two fold on this note. I am saddened that someone would write this. But another part of me would stick it too them by proudly framing this bad boy and hanging it on my office wall.

We are seeing more and more of this type activity. People need to remain vigilant. People who do this sort of thing deserve to have their butts kicked. The disdain for the military and police in this country is a result of the moral decay that is permeating our society. I will leave it at that and not turn this into a political statement.

Unfortunately, with the news media reaction to such stories, there have been instances of people "faking" these notes for the attention it brings them. Not saying this is one of them, but, anybody caught doing that should also be scorned for it.

I am saddened that someone could be so callous and tactless to leave a note as distasteful as this on someone's car that they don't even know. It is said that ignorance is bliss; evidently this individual doesn't realize what this "Hero" gave in fighting for him and others to have this shitty opinion, It's his and he can keep it!! We can all agree to disagree, but at least have the courage to say it to them instead of acting cowardly and just leaving a note.

I have this little beauty on the windshield of my vehicle. It's portable, easy to use and it has a date and time stamp. It's a Car Cam and you can get them pretty much anywhere. It's a great little video camera. Check it out! It definitely would put a stop to a lot of this type of bull-shit type of cowardly behavior!

We have a Resilience for Law Enforcement class at the academy that translates well for service members. As COL Jean (John) F. B. & Sgt David G Duchesneau have mentioned here, vigilance has become our watchword in the society that we now live in. The threat is real and it is in our own neighborhoods. It's a fairly easy transition for us to make given our training, the more difficult task is getting our friends and family to realize it. We have a responsibility to them to ensure they are cognizant of the risks they share because of their closeness to us.

If I remember correctly there were a few Islamic funded and operated tactical "military" training camps in NY state that attracted the attention of the Federal authorities a few years ago. It is not surprising that Muslim-terroristphiles [people who love Muslim terrorists] are running around in NY as well as other people who just want to incite trouble. I don't know which group the "author" of the note above is; but, whoever it was and whatever their motivation was the whole act is reprehensible.

I'm not exactly sure how to respond to this, so I will say this:
If its legit, then I hope the person who did such a cowardly act is detained and suffers the consequences for it... but... if it's NOT legit (and I'm not insinuating anything), that individual should have to suffer the same consequences as well, regardless who he or she is...
And I, for one, am going to be very pissed off retiree if this turns out to be a fake in one form or another... It's not like wouldn't be the first time...

Evidently this person is sympathetic to the Islamic jihad. Early 2000s a Captain mentioned that I should probably not hang my uniform in my car. No need to self identify myself.

Opsec aside, the situation of civilian turning on military is a very very sensitive situation. I hope that active duty members are mature enough to not react but appologize and deescalate well. Good luck if you find yourself in a tough situation vs the citizen of the US being disrespectful.

Other people's action does not excuse you from your actions. You have to do what you have to though :)

Its clear to me that a child must have wrote this based on the hand writing. This letter is a great way to prove how much of a bad a** you are with out having to put your self in any real danger of being a man.
If you cant say it to his face keep it to your self.
This type of person is the same type of person who goes to Westboro Baptist Church, believes that we should strip all citizens of there 2nd amendment rights, and downsize our military to fund people who choose not to work because they make enough money from the gov to sit at home.
