Marine's death reclassified to Operation Inherent Resolve. What do you think about the reclassification??

Part of the story.

Spears died after the Osprey he was in briefly lost power after taking off from the ship. He and another Marine jumped out of the aircraft. The pilot subsequently regained control of the aircraft, and safely landed on back on the Makin Island. The other Marine was recovered from the water. The cause of the power loss is being investigated.

MSG Sommer Brown, I think it's the right thing to do. When I first heard this story and the fact that his death was being counted as an accident (or something like that), I thought that sounded wrong. This sounds closer to right to me, because he was on a mission in support of our effort to go after ISIS.

Yes this was the right thing to do. I also feel that even if the military death occurred in the states or else where it should be considered a combat death if that member was in direct support of the combat operations. When our nation goes to war every military member is at war regardless of where they are stationed.

MSG Willard Hunter ,I agree with you about it should be counted as combat related. In the army if you are injured on a patrol, qualification range or any other combat training and have a LOD then your injury is listed as combat related. When I injured my back while on patrol at Ft Sill and it was bad enough that it did not meet retention standards and I was on Title 10 orders I was med retired @ 70% permanent disability combat related.
