I don't have the time or money to keep one running so I personally wouldn't LOL, besides I will save my money until I can buy something I really like, like a M88!!

I would love to get my hands on one. If for nothing else to store it away for 30 years. Think of how sot after the old jeeps are. These will be the jeep of our generation. Not that it is so amazing more to the fact it is a piece of our history in the making.

i would depending on price but i would invest in doing a f/r solid axle conversion, shed some weight and change the driveline gearing to support lighter weight and make it freeway capable. the way it is requires too much maintenance on drivetrain to make it worth the hassle.

I'd buy one and work to make it road-worthy, but I remember Motor Pool Mondays and "deadlined" vehicles because it had some ridiculously minor issue. As easy as it was to fix a Humvee (it seemed, anyway), they are pretty crappy vehicles for anything but tearing through Training Area C at 10mph. I've seen exactly one military Humvee converted for civilian use, and the guy said it wasn't worth it.

Plus, let's be honest here -- you take it down to the grocery store, go inside, and some wiseacre who knows about Humvees starts it up and steals it. Because there are no keys.

I would be very interested except for the fact that the Army is selling them for off road use only, and withholding the paperwork needed to get them titled.

No off road use only unless you want to spend the money to repurpose for road use but that is very expensive!

Nope, buy a road version....These cost a crapton to maintain....If you have it, go for it!
Street H1's and H2's are really nice, especially with the turbo diesel...

No. Reason: Like many Soldiers, my first experience driving off-road was in a HMMWV. It was awesome. I loved going across muddy fields with the front-end pointing this way, then that way, while the actual direction something almost unrelated to the former. It was great.

(On road, not so great. Should come with a calendar instead of a speedo.)

Then I bought a Jeep Grand Cherokee with the V-8 and the Up-Country suspension and full-time 4WD (it was a 1994 model). First time I took it off road, I realized that while driving a HMMWV had been fun, it wasn't anywhere near the front of the pack for off-roading.

I've never had the chance to drive a Mercedes Benz G550, (the Gelandewagen), but if money were no object, I'd get either one of those or a Bowler EXR (a fancy Range Rover Sport).

Since money is an object, if I were going to buy a new off-roader, I would checkout a Toyota Tacoma, the new 2019 Ford Ranger, or maybe an F-150 (Raptor, maybe). I think a mid-size truck is better than fullsize for off-roading, because in my experience out West, many years ago, sometimes the trails got narrow and smaller was better.

Although I gave an example of my old Jeep GC, I would avoid a new Jeep. I wouldn't go very far off-road in a Fiat, which Jeep (Chrysler) is effectively married to at the moment. Chrysler had quality problems enough before Fiat, now, what on earth...?

I like the Humvee, but the mileage is awful. Definitely a vehicle for overland though.
