Military Transfer Credits for Higher Education; How much do you receive? https://www.rallypoint.com/answers/military-transfer-credits-for-higher-education-how-much-do-you-receive <div class="images-v2-count-0"></div>I am just curious if there are any others out there (38B in this case) who have dealt with getting transfer credits for military experience. I am going back to school for the first time since joining over 7 years ago, and was surprised to see my 7 years compiled into 3 credits of Army Leadership and 6 credits of Health and Wellness. Civil Affairs has not been reviewed by ACE/JST and says to have credit awarded by individual assessment. I brought this up with my academic advisor and they are having me do a "prior learning assessment". It sounds to me like this requires me to put together a portfolio for review, which will be considered to get additional credits for non-college experience. Has anyone else had better luck with getting credit for military training or is this typically all that is granted?? Doing engineering, all elective credits are engineering electives. Civilians think the only military training we receive is how to shoot stuff and blow stuff up (learned mostly from movies). I laughed when I had to take a "culture class" for my degree, which consisted of reading a book and watching a movie. I have 3 deployments were I was embedded with the locals and held meetings with tribal leaders lol, but I "needed" a culture class lol. We will provide as much credit towards your program as possible, up to 46 credits for an Associate’s program and 91 credits for a Bachelor’s program. The application of military credits towards a civilian degree can often vary based on the selected program of study and the service member’s military specialty. Often times, military credits that cannot be applied to fulfill a major or core requirement in the program will be assigned as general elective credits. Degrees that are closely associated with the military specialty will generally have more options for applying earned military credit towards the degree program chosen.
