During the opening ceremonies last night of Monday Night football I noticed that when the flag was brought out there were military members holding the flag. Majority were in their dress uniforms, but the Army was in its ACUs. In my opinion it did not look good and they looked very out of place. Then I went back and looked at some older pics and saw that the Army always wears cammies vs. dress uniform.
Doesn't some commander have a decision to make on what uniform to wear? Why wear your worse uniform to something like that? I thought they were dressed for casual Friday.
What are your thoughts for something that is televised like this?

I am brutally exhausted in our policy to allow public presence in ACUs. I firmly believe in traveling (PCS/TDY) ought to be in the ASU versus the ACU and if you don't want to wear your ASU, then civilian. The motto and slogan "Profession of Arms" only holds water if we look professional in public and I can assure you in my humble opinion a Marine traveling looks a whole lot better than a Soldier in ACUs.
I was stationed at Fort Myer where we never wore BDUs unless on midnight shift, so the beef that Blues (ASU) cannot be everyday wear will not pass with me. I am proud of the uniform and work diligently to wear it correct and with pride.

The Army really should copy the Marine Corps by not allowing soldiers to wear ACU's when off duty or off base. It would go a long way towards, as you pointed out, maintaining a professional look. I don't know what the Army equivalent of the Service Bravos/Charlies is, but that should be the uniform for mission-related travel.

Class A/B are authorized for travel...but who wants to travel in those? Unless I HAVE to be in uniform, comfy clothes is where it's at.....

I do not know if it is disgust or jealousy, but while I was on Active Duty (and still to this day), when I see a service member out in town in their uniform of the day (i.e., ACU's, MARPAT, or Coveralls), basically anything other than Service Uniforms, it still gets under my skin. The working uniforms for every service are just that: Working Uniforms. They should not be displayed or worn out in the civilian world for any reason other than stopping to get gas or go to the bank.

Traveling CONUS in daily work uniform seems to have caught on after 9/11. As late as 1985 the reserve unit I was in traveled from San Diego to Minnesota, January, in Class A Greens. Travel in yrs after that was in civilian clothes. Traveled on group orders from Minnesota to San Diego (ironically, different units!) in February 2000 in civilian clothes. All my travel after that yr was in civilian clothes. I can understand traveling from 'theater' to CONUS in a duty uniform but don't see the need in and around CONUS. In CONUS travel should be civilian attire or ASU's! Unfortunately the Army no longer has a 'in between' uniform like the old Khaki's

The army seldom wears any dress uniforms. The culture of being an Army at wear lets soldier wear ACUs as a professional uniform. I don't like the practice. I hope the Army moves away from this mentality. Other branches like the MC and Navy wear their dress uniforms far more. An example of this is when a Navy ship disembarks from a port. The AF has worked so much with the Army they just mirror another.

Maybe if the AF quit spending so much money on stealth aircraft that they're going to use for a decade, if that, they'd be able to afford an upgrade to their dress uniform. And their duty uniform is pretty awful too.. Not trying to dog the AF btw. Just calling it like I see it.

Wait a second, are you saying that the Army has another uniform? I thought they came out of their momma's wearing their ACUs.... I went to WWE Raw this past Monday and lo and behold, ACUs all over the place. Riddle me this Army, are your junior ranks just sooooo hooah that they have thrown away any and all civilian clothing?

It is a WWE policy to let those in ACU get a free ticket so a lot of our Joes go in uniform to get a free show.

lol yeah you've been missing out; everytime they would come to Fort Bragg I would still pay to get front row seats, but I saw a couple of guys that came in ACU's get up to the 3rd row behind us. Its where ever they have seats and they will put you in the best seats as possible.

Nice to know, thanks for sharing, I had never heard of this before. What a great program; people may rag on "wrasslin" but they do a lot more for the community than many other organizations.
