Let me say this much, organized religion has caused more death in the name of God, Allah, Jesus, Vishnu... How many people have starved to death when they had a pig, or cow near by they could have slaughtered and eaten. But because some religious leader has declared it unclean, or they may be eating a relative, these people are cursed to starve. It's not the food banks problem to cater to a religion or religious needs. It does not give any further background on the group, and their involvement. For example my church worked with the local food bank that had some government, and some private portions to it. If my church donates money to assist, or my tax dollars go to assist the food provided should be food that I could eat in accordance with my religious beliefs. Whether that is Kosher, Halal, or Peanut Free. Even if it decided to continue to provide pork, I have every right to petition the government.

I mean didn't the whole Hobby Lobby having to provide birth control, and arguments against planned parenthood receiving government funds exist because people would not spend their money on that because of religious beliefs so the Government should not spend their money on it either?

There is not enough info, and the article is propaganda. Regardless, I can see them requesting that pork be separated from non-pork foods if it wasn't difficult, time-consuming, or a burden... but if not, they shouldn't expect people who are already bending over backwards to help them to... well... bend over even more. I can understand their desire to eat the foods that are customary for them to eat and avoid the foods that are considered by their faith to be unclean, but you can't expect a charity that is cash-strapped and supported principally by donations to accommodate every request imaginable. I couldn't get through the whole article... it really was written by an asshole... I don't know if they demanded as it indicated or requested. People shouldn't get all bent out of shape over a request. Demands are different of course... but like I said, I didn't bother to read the entire article. Some of the people who need to use the food bank are refugees who haven't yet mastered the English language. Religious freedom does not mean you have the right to make everyone around you change and everyone must cater to your wishes. It means you can worship your god in your way without fear of retribution. But it also says you cannot risk the safety and welfare of the public and all reasonable curtseys will be given to all REASONABLE CURTSEYS. That does not mean hey I will join the US military knowing I have to follow the AR-670 and force the to Army to let me have beard and Turban. That does not mean I will force a free food bank of donated food for hungry people which you don't look like you are and tell them you have to treat me special because I am Muslim it does not mean I can force restaurant owners to take down signs that have been there for years because the word Bacon offends me or I have the right to attack a customer in KFC because he asks for bacon on a chicken sandwich. Its a matter of what gets donated. Beggars can't be choosers.
During Desert Storm and after we fed many hungry Iraqi soldiers. I recall just after the cease fire stopping and searching an Iraqi vehicle. The two men, one a Colonel the other was his sergeant driver, they had ids, the colonel said they were very hungry. Knowing they were muslim, I informed him all I had in the truck was mres with pork in them. He stated he didnt care since he had not eaten in Aday or so. I handed him . And his driver two MREs each. They were very grateful to the point where the colonel was tearing up. We sent them on their way.
We are all human in war, and in peace, enemy or not , no one should go hungry.
