Craig Thompson thinks Army-Navy game is disruptive due to the short lead time for Bowl Games, and that it needs to be earlier on the calendar.

It used to be earlier, the first weekend of Dec...but they complained that it got in the way of other high profile games at that time (division championship games I think).

The Army-Navy game was generally played right after Thanksgiving back in the good old days (I graduated from Navy in 1971) when we had 100,000 at the horseshoe stadium in Philadelphia - then it was called JFK Stadium. Of course we did not have the current string of Navy wins...but Army is getting better at running the triple option. We only beat Army my Plebe and First Class years when I was a Mid. I have both the gray B-robe and the USMA parka to prove it. We were big into betting on the game. But no matter when it is played...Go NAVY Beat Army - again!

Tough......it is the most celebrated 'college' football game ever. They need to NOT move it due to "Commercial" concerns with the FBS. This game is still the 'Queen' of the bowl season....and the FBS needs to adjust to it....not the other way around.

Why not Thanksgiving weekend. That weekend normally is full with intra-state college rivalries. The Army-Navy rivalry would fit right in.

Army just won Armed Forces Bowl 70-14 with time for only 4 practices and literally running out of exams to catch bus to airport for game. Houston had a month to prepare.
Having Army-Navy as only FBS game on 2nd Saturday of December creates a top 10 gsme if the year viewer audience and tribute to service academy football.

Philadelphia wanted more money to hoist the 1983 Army-Navy game. The rose bowl took up the challenge. Next year the city of brotherly love was begging the service academies to return.

It should have been last week, which is commonly referred to as "rivalry week." The last week of the regular season is when the grudge matches are supposed to happen.
