Your hotel stay for military training could count towards upgraded status and points for future personal use (If using government credit card in your name).

https://www.ihg.com/rewardsclub/

LTC Eugene Chu Wed, 22 Jul 2020 10:15:56 -0400 2020-07-22T10:15:56-04:00 Response by SSG Private RallyPoint Member made Jul 22 at 2020 10:37 AM https://www.rallypoint.com/answers/my-company-made-me-reservations-to-stay-at-the-candlewood-on-post-at-leonard-wood-as-an-mos-t-will-i-be-allowed-to-stay-there?n=6127158&urlhash=6127158

Interesting, most MOS reclasses used to stay in the barracks but got 2 man rooms down the hall but it has been along time since I was at Leonardwood. You’ll also need a statement of non availability from the course saying there are no rooms, or something similar stating that you will be lodged in barracks.
If your 1610 does not authorize lodging expenses, the Army will not reimburse you SFC Private RallyPoint Member Wed, 22 Jul 2020 11:57:46 -0400 2020-07-22T11:57:46-04:00 Response by CPT Private RallyPoint Member made Jul 22 at 2020 2:22 PM https://www.rallypoint.com/answers/my-company-made-me-reservations-to-stay-at-the-candlewood-on-post-at-leonard-wood-as-an-mos-t-will-i-be-allowed-to-stay-there?n=6127888&urlhash=6127888

I have managed DTS at my unit. The short answer, yes. First, when you travel for military training the government lodging should be used. If you can't then you would get a "Statement of Non-Availability." With that you can stay in commercial lodging. The military will only pay you at the per diem rate for lodging. This can be built into your travel authorization. Since it is on the base I am sure they are below the rate and are preferred for lodging.

WARNING: If you get a welcome letter that says you are required to stay in government lodging and you don't have a "Statement of Non-Availability" the military will not reimburse you. I am going to a course soon and I made sure my welcome letter stated that I can stay off base in commercial lodging.
