What should I do? Should I pin myself and show up to AIT as a SGT or should I just wait until I come back from AIT to my unit to start clearing post and have my unit pin me then? My ERB says that I am a SGT now and I made the list on the 1st. Am I able to pin myself? 2019-07-05T14:08:55-04:00 SPC(P) Private RallyPoint Member 4782609

Okay so I made the list and everything for promotion and my ERB had updated to say I am an
e-5 now but no one is here because everyone is on block leave and I have re-classed and am going to AIT in just a few days. You will still be promoted with or without the ceremony and if you showed up at AIT (assuming it is after the effective date of the promotion) it is unlikey anyone will notice the difference. If no one is going to be at your unit between between the effective date of the promotion and your departure for AIT, you could have the promotion ceremony at the your AIT unit. Two, look for a copy of your promotion orders, verify and print them out. Three, call your AIT and enquire as your unit is on block leave.

Most likely they will tell you to pin it on. The ceremony is a mere formality, not necessary. An ERB can be incorrect, but orders are proof. If you receive the orders the day before or day you report to AIT, go to the PX and buy the new rank. If you receive them the day of, make sure to notify the command team. They may want to perform the ceremony. Inform them that you just make the promotion list. You are in THEIR command now, so they will be responsible for getting your promotion orders AND the promotion ceremony. I know there are some that said to promote yourself, but it will be noticed and you will draw unneeded attention. Your orders will say SPC and your records will say SGT. Just go ahead and have that command help you into the NCO Corps the proper way. I am sure that 1SG and CSM will want to do it the right way.
