My granddaughter is currently an Army Airborne Parachute Rigger. How much time in does it normally take to become Sergeant?

She loves her job. My question, she did 4 years of Marine Corp JROTC. So, she came into BCT with a tank of PV2. At graduation they promoted her to PV3. She is at her duty station and they promoted her 6 months early to Specialist. My question, what is fast tracking? And how long before she can go for Sergeant?

Teresa Harris promotion to Sergeant Is not just Time in Service / Time in Grade TIS/TIG like E1-E4. TIS is 36 months. TIG 12 months as a specialist. to be promoted to Sergeant she will have to acquire the points to be promoted which changes month to month. She will have to attend a promotion board. She will have to go to Basic Leadership Course BLC. There is also some self structured learning that she must complete (SSD-1).

PV3? Did you mean PFC E3? Four years of Junior ROTC has no bearing on further promotion.

The cutoff score for 42R last month was 798. That's pretty high, just about the max.

Thank you. I do know that they are sending her out the other learn things not in her MOS. They taught her to drive the big trucks, she is now Hazmat, certified. They taught her how to get out of a vehicle hit by an IED. She is reenlisting, so she might make this career.

Long time ago I had the same MOS; well back then it was 43E. Back to subject. Her promotion after SPC is based on her performance an ability to execute to the next level. I got promoted to SGT/E5 in less than 3 years so it is posible. As LTC Jason Mackay mentioned, there are other variables in the equation.

She's going to have to be proficient in her packs and inspection. As a 5 she's going to certify others pack jobs plus all of her other equipment. Failure in this path is painful to fatal...
