My wife and I (MSG and SFC), just got word that we are going to Fort Huachuca TRADOC next August. Where should we look at for housing?

We are both Intel (F and N). Not sure exactly where we are going there. Details are limited at this time. Looking for min 2000sf 2+ bed and 2+ bath and BAH for both is 2217 as of 2016.

The off base housing market when I was station there was pretty good. I know the BAH more than covered my rent for a 2 bed 2 bath place. Housing on base wasn't the best so that is why I looked off base. There were a lot of new homes being built just up the road by the Applebee's, of course this was in 2006/2007 so I'm sure there is a lot more there now but I don't think you'll have an issue finding something quickly.

1SG (Join to see) - My pleasure. Best of luck! I loved the area! As a history nerd, going to Tombstone was awesome and if you love being outdoors and not in 60 pounds of Army gear, there are some great bike and hiking paths.

The Sierra Vista area is beautiful. Close to Mexico and Tucson, great hiking, horseback riding and as SGT Ben Keen said, there are some relics from the old west in the area.

That will probably mean Sierra Vista for you then MSG. I don't know housing too well up there, but there is stuff for you to do. Lots of hiking, trails, ATV's, sport shooting, horseback riding. You'll be able to head to Tucson or Phoenix fairly easily, there's a fair amount of concerts and sporting events between the two though there seems to be constant road construction in Tucson.
It does go without saying I suppose but when you get here you'll find you need to hydrate more often, even in the Winter. Which it does get cold in the Winter so don't lose all of your cold weather gear.

Great location. I recall that the on post housing wait was 36 months (if a tour is 36 months, who is getting to stick around after that?). There is plenty of construction going on in the place, and I would suggest a look-see before you get there to determine where you want to live. Great assignment. Good luck.
