National Guard overseas?

I am a National Guard Soldier married to an active duty Soldier. If my spouse gets assigned to Germany, how will I continue serving in the National Guard? I am assuming there are no National Guard units in Germany. Are there Reserve units there that I may be able to transfer in to?

I think there are reserve units assigned or attached to other units in Germany 2LT Private RallyPoint Member. I recommend you tag Germany [German Flag] because some of those members might be able to provide more recent information.

I have no factual knowledge of this; however, in the past, I recall hearing that you could stay assigned to your current unit but drill with a unit over there... provided your commander allowed it and the commander of the unit you were splitting with allowed it. It might also be possible to do a semi-permanent attachment.

There are Reserve units in all of the major bases, including Vicenza. They are always short-handed for mid-range NCOs, so you should have little trouble finding a unit.
Most of the members are former AD Soldiers who married a local national and are serving out their statutory obligation.

You might also look on Tour of Duty. There may be a Title 10 ADOS tour at the location your wife is being assigned.

I know there is a Reserve unit over on Grafenwoehr. Contact the reserve career counselor on Tower Barracks/ Rose Barracks at
011-49-9641-83-4347. I'm sure he can atleast get you pointed in the right direction.

There used to be Reserve units. Not sure now. Maybe you could do a Title 10 tour there?

I've had to deal/and help. Here's some options:
1. Find a unit over ther and transfer. No Guard in Germany so it will have to be Res. dD 368 for release.
2. Go ING with current Guard unit. May not be acceptable to your unit They can backfill your slot, but if you come back to same unit will create an excess slot.
3. Try and find T10 gig over there. From what I've seen recently not very many slots and HIGHLY competitive(and also some politics/good ole boy).
4. Try and go AD. Same needed DD 368 for release. May or may not work.

I think a letter indicating your participation in drills and annual training is impractical is required.

You would have to talk to a reserve recruiter or career counselor about that. Since that is federal grounds I believe that they would be able to get the information that you would need. The only guard units overseas are the ones on deployment you would have to make sure that there would be a slot open for your MOS first then the state command would have to be willing to sign off on your transfer. Talk to the recruiter 1st then take it from there

I have a friend that is a reservist and does her drill over here.
