Navy leaders fired during deployment? What just happened here?

I came across this today. And it seems that the Navy is having some issues while deployed. The question would be. Is discipline being downgraded when it comes to deployments?

I for one do not know. But the entire military better behave on while deployed. Weather on board a ship or on land.

This is not necessarily something I like to read. But this is the reality for Commanding Officers of a commissioned naval vessel. I suspect this will play out fairly simply. Since all 3 (C.O., X.O. and CMC) were relieved at the same time - it would seem that all 3 were either aware of a situation and failed to take appropriate action or one of the 3 committed an infraction while in port and the other two did not handle it properly. Unfortunately, for the crew, they will be subject to some intense questioning while deployed by NCIS.

That is horrible. Its never a good thing to get fired from a duty position, let alone while on a deployment. Like what PO1 Private RallyPoint Member said, they must have done something extremely bad or one of them did and the other 2 may have tried to cover it up.

Would hate to be the service members aboard the destroyer hearing and seeing your chain of command get relieved and getting a new chain in the middle of the deployment.

I have had great leaders that have been replaced while at sea due to misconduct (usually involving a substantial amount of alcohol and the opposite gender) and can tell you that it is difficult to adjust to a new set of rules being implemented in a crash course manner.

It's interesting that they mention the investigation into "command climate" but the "scuttlebutt" refers to a liberty incident......Regardless of the outcome, all three men can kiss their careers goodbye. Just being publically connected to controversy like this will ensure that the officers will never obtain another command or promotion, even if they were to be completely cleared of any wrongdoing. The best the CMC can hope for is an obscure posting in "limbo". The incident must be really "hot" for the powers that be to risk the negative PR for the Navy.
