I know we've been discussing how to defeat ISIS on RallyPoint, how involved the USA should be, etc. I just read the below report that ISIS burned 45 people to death in al-Baghdadi. They seem to be testing our resolve and our ability to "stomach" these atrocities. What should we do to put an end to this? The President's AUMF? Is that enough? Something more? Less? What do you think?

Hopefully nothing. Yeah, that's cold and it sucks.

We didn't get involved in Rwanda and Darfur, we got involved in Bosnia on a limited scale and it was a fiasco.

Do I wish we could drop a smart bomb, launch a cruise missle, hit a button and end Genocide and human rights violations? With all my heart.

Am I willing to sacrifice my children, my brothers in arms, or myself to make it happen when it poses no threat to my country or fellow citizens? Nope.

History shows us that we just end up making more enemies and end up looking like a bully. It's like when you step in and punch the guy beating his wife in the face and turn around and she's trying to scratch your eyes out.

Not much we can do. Invade, full-scale? That's what ISIS wants, and even if we defeat them, will our nation building be any more successful than our failed attempts in Iraq and Libya? The failed attempts that gave ISIS the power vacuum and space required to set up its "caliphate"?

Also, how do we invade to take care of ISIS without also getting into a conflict with Syria and Iran? And if we do get into conflict with them, how long until Israel gets pulled into it? Is Israel up to the task of another Six Day War, without resorting to their nuclear arsenal?

Hate to say it, but the limited airstrikes and backing of other Islamic countries is probably the best of a set of bad options.

Certainly with the political palatability of war, ensuring that Jordan doesn't run out bombs and bullets seems to be the most practical solution.

It won't be an issue until our Xbox service is interrupted or Kim Kardashian's twitter account is suspended. ISIS is such a speck on the horizon the typical American can't even spell it let alone care.
