New units in RP compared to old units that are no longer active

I find that as a veteran I have a hard time writing exact units,

Example: I was in HHC 1/3 ACR in Ft Bliss, but it shows as something different

as shown in the image I posted.

kind of makes it hard for me to appear honest when the unit I served with has moved locations to some other state since my time.

Much worse is if current members assume I was in their unit in the new location :)

I thought I post this to see if any one seen the same thing.

This is not a report to RP, rather just a general thing I thought I mention.

was wondering how todays ARMY SM feel about this....

I am tracking some of the same things. Some of the units I served with earlier in my career have either deactivated, re-flagged to a different unit, moved installations, etc. It is difficult to keep track of all the changes.

That is a huge problem because as I do research on old units for Together We Served, I have to go to extreme measures it seems to find out where Det 2, 31WS is and so on.

Most decommissioned Naval ships are not even available for selection, let alone associated to any of the home ports they may have been in. I'm sure the same goes for shore units.

Just keep in mind, this site is still very much in an on-going development state. The team working behind the scenes are striving to make this a top-notch site for us to connect with others and personally I think they are doing a great job. I did see the same thing when I put in my unit in Germany. While the location was correct the patch wasn't. I don't think this says anything about your integrity; just shows that the site still has some hurdles to cross.

It makes it harder to find Soldiers in your old units when your old units don't show up. I think there should be an option where someone can create an old disbanded unit and have others approve the name then make it permanent.

Yes, I've come across the same issue. Since Minuteman II ICBMs have been deactivated, the unit I was assigned to in the late 80s no longer exist.

The two companies I commanded no longer exist, guess I was the black widow. I clicked on the feedback tab after looking at the FAQ section. I laid out the unit chain, example: 95 Maint CO TMDE, Aviation and Missile Command, AMC at Redstone arsenal, al. Also told them which shoulder sleeve insignia to put with it. RP staff fixed it in 24 hrs.

In fact, I would argue that no one actually knows 100% of the DoD's task org going back to the earliest days of the US military -- not even the Pentagon. PS -- Detachments are a beast to deal with. There isn't a human being or computer on planet earth that actually knows where all the detachments are at a given moment -- not even CJCS.

I had the same issue with a few of my first duty assignments, my first unit, 2-77 AR no longer active, so even though I put in all the info for it will not show the 4th ID patch; for the 11th ACR, I have to input the info for D Co 1/11th Fulda, Germany and it still puts up NTC but I can live with it as it allows me to input the right info.

I have the same problem. HMM-165 is now VMM-165 and located at MCAS Miramar rather than the now close MCAS El Toro.

I had four duty assignments in my time. Three of the four no longer exist, Bitburg AB, Kelly AFB and Hahn AB. The only surviving base is Nellis AFB. However the unit designation changed. Heck, even the the career field changed!

I feel the same way some of my units designations have been changed with the New Army. I served from 74 to 76 in Germany can't find my old unit. from 78 to 98 the same

Preaching to the Choir, SSG Know exactly what you are talking about. Served on 2 Nuclear Cruisers, They have been decommisioned and the names assigned to Submarines. When I was in CINCPACFLT and PACOM were different commands now they are one joint command it appears here. I retired from the Naval Security Group (Navy Spook) They Disestablished the Naval Security Group so there is no sign of them here (As a Navy Spook everything we do is smoke and mirrors needless to say they are still there and still here but under other names now). Also we returned 7 North Audley St (Ike's old HQ) back to the brits after I left so no mention of Naval Communications Unit London. Also I was Master at Arms to COMSPAWARSYSCOM Washington DC. Now COMSPAWARSYSCOM HQ is in California. Makes my head spin.

I thought I would find many more responses and add-on questions to this post. All of my former units have moved, realigned, renamed or deactivated over the years and I don't really feel affiliated with the current or listed organizational structures. I spent most of my years in Europe where most of the units were actually forward deployed elements of larger regiments and others remained in Europe following the war and stayed there until they deactivated. Many deployed from Germany to Korea or even Vietnam and returned to Europe. So many different possibilities and I understand it but I would like to have the right patch with the right unit in the city under the command I served.

And to add to all the confusion...I just was made aware that the 82nd Airborne Division is no longer going to be a true airborne unit. They are becoming like the 101st. It is a sad day in our history to see this change taking place.

I was accused of stolen valor once when I talked about being in the 3rd ID in Germany. "I was in 2/15 INF" ""THEY DON'T EVEN HAVE A 2nd BN!!!!!!".............calm down, junior. The Army has been around long before you became Yoda (all wise, and all-knowing). 1/52 INF was at NTC before they became 2/11 ACR. The Army used to have OH-58D units that were Attack (Not CAV), weapons systems change, MOS's die out, KIOWAS GET RETIRED FROM INVENTORY (tear), and us old farts get to remember the "good old days."

Not only is my unit selection limited, but also my MOS and the equipment that I operated.
I had to make my corrections down in the deployments section of my profile. I was recently asked about operating M1As in Vietnam, because that is all that RP will display.

I was 1st Tanks, 1st Mar. Div. FMFWesPac, Danang RVN, NOT 1st Tanks, 1st MEF. now at 29 Palms.
My MOS was 1811 Tank crewman, now listed as something else.
My vehicle was a M48a3 Patton NOT M1A Abrams tank.
Pretty confusing all in all.
