Statements like this are purely for internal consumption. The only way he can keep the masses in line is to frighten them with dire warnings of outside threats. It only serves to remind me that all people have exactly the government they deserve. We do. So does every other people in every other nation. If they really wanted to change it, they could. So could we...

A state of perpetual war and terror is an easy way to get your subjects to willingly give up their personal freedoms.

I would never expect that from such a free and honest country as North Korea though...
