Obama appoints first trans-gendered White House staffer. Is this genuine, or is he pulling a political stunt?

I think he's just pandering to the far left. Which is too bad, really. She might be actually qualified, might actually deserve the post. But she won't get the credit. He will.

I find this announcement somewhat humorous SN Greg Wright. I am relatively certain that among the hundreds if not thousands there have already been one or two transgender folks on the White House staff - having gone through gender reassignment surgery and others who are waiting or struggling to go through gender reassignment surgery. It's a political move to add to the "firsts" list and there may well be some nepotism of the friend variety at play here. NCTE Executive Director Mara Keisling said. "That the first transgender appointee is a transgender woman of color is itself significant. And that the first White House transgender appointee is of a friend is inspiring to me"
