Obama orders flags lowered to honor Tennessee victims, after criticism

The flags at the U.S. Capitol were ordered lowered to half-staff Tuesday in honor of the four Marines and Navy sailor killed in last week's attack in Chattanooga, Tenn.

I'm sure a lot of people will jump on this and say "It's about time" and I agree, it is about time yet, I'm wondering if this was something he wanted to do from the start and was told not to or was it something that he just plan didn't care about. That we will never know but glad to see this finally happening.

I'm glad this finally happened, and please forgive my ignorance, but how is this different from any other time one of our brothers and sisters fall in the line of duty. Again I state I am glad this finally happened I just want to know why now was so important for the flag to be set at half staff. I'm curious why not when we die in a far off land in combat or when one our own takes their own life at a rate of one every 65 minutes. Aren't they all equally tragic. Don't they rate having the flag lowered to half staff. Again I am glad it was so ordered.

Maybe it's the survivor's guilt talking.

May our fallen know eternal peace and God be with those of us left behind

SCPO David Lockwood, I object to calling the casualties victims. Victims are generally helpless, these were military personnel who came under hostile fire.

Really Mr President? It took a media storm of negative comments for you to make a decision or did you just go play golf? Your a disgrace to this country shame on you. These marines are called victims because they were MADE helpless by a lackluster at best administration. These last 8 years will go down in history as some of the darkest moments in our history. It's a sad day when our own government will take 5 days to order the flags half mass. I feel it was only because of the outcry of the veteran community that something was done. Whitney Houston gets recognition and rated flags flown half mass the day she died. But our men get nothing for 5 days.
