Should the US Military get involved in another "conflict" when the current Ops Tempo is forcing experienced Soldiers, Marines, Sailors, and Airmen to leave the service?  MAJ Jim Woods Wed, 26 Mar 2014 14:35:11 -0400 2014-03-26T14:35:11-04:00 Response by SGT James Elphick made Mar 26 at 2014 2:47 PM https://www.rallypoint.com/answers/operations-tempo?n=85712&urlhash=85712 <div class="images-v2-count-0"></div>I guess that depends what "conflict" you are talking about. The U.S. is always going to have to get involved in conflicts. We have done a terrible job with the 2 wars we just fought. We forgot the lessons we learned in Vietnam, we forgot the lessons the Soviets learned in Afghanistan, we forgot we don't like nation-building. We have to become a more efficient and effective fighting force and complete our missions with an appropriate number of soldiers while avoiding "mission creep". This should keep the Ops Tempo manageable and allow the U.S. military to engage in the conflicts it needs to when necessary. We are downsizing because we don't have a major conflict. If we did, would we be scaling down? I'm not inclined to think so..
