I realize it's obv something that's a real problem, I've just honestly never even remotely run across it, that's all I'm trying to say, though if I could offer any thoughts to helopp certainly by all means of course. Have you gotten an Assoc Bach or higher at all? Also have you ever thought about putting in for warrant at all if allowable, or possibly limited duty officer or LDO at all? Then too a great deal would depend on your age as well as field, I should think. If you might be clinical at all, you might ask about the usphs commissioned corps possibly, I gather they I think have an upper age limit of I am guessing 44 for some fields though I'm uncertain. Also, though they've never used the capability I'd read apparently they are I'd read also statutorily allowed to use warrants though I'm reasonably sure they've never had them I think. Now having said that, possibly you might look at going if you're clinical for PA school though I don't know if it'd be allowed, or submitting to the USUHS nursing program at the svc med school ID read they also now had nursing programs apparently. Look at http://www.excelsior.edu a very svc friendly online prog that used to be under NY state govt and has an extnsv nursing prog up thru an MSN possib also NP capability though you'd obv need to check of course. Reserve, guard, or AGR I don't know about, AGR being under states typ might go under difrnt rules, you could also look at going into the reserve tech spots which I'd read are analogous on the federal svc side to the AGR side? For example in NY, look up the jobs page under the NY DMNA where we are, that's where NY DMNA lists all!itsmopen spots incl AGR there are I'm sure analogous other pages in the other states and or territories as well. Look too at a new nearly free school, http://www.uopeople.edu mo tuition just exam and admin costs, though only Assoc and Bach in comp sci and bus admin and an MBA plusmi don't know though DETC formerly NHSC recently I'd read accredited them how the svcs and or industries view tjem yet, hope of help, if want to spl further pls just say of course anytime by all means.

Excelsior College, an online college with degree programs, courses and exams in Business, Technology, Nursing, Liberal Arts, Health Sciences and Public Service.

Response by Capt Daniel Goodman made May 2 at 2016 1:52 AM 2016-05-02T01:52:29-04:00 2016-05-02T01:52:29-04:00 CAPT Kevin B. 1494537

The BUPERS site has information. Presuming you're AD, it seems you're hitting the 10 year point. You can go reserve but will hit HYT at 12 years if you don't promote to E-5. Like officers, it's pretty much an up or out thing. Response by CAPT Kevin B. made May 2 at 2016 1:53 AM 2016-05-02T01:53:02-04:00 2016-05-02T01:53:02-04:00 CDR Terry Boles 1496416

PO3 David Griffith
Like others, the suggestion seems to be to talk to other service recruiters to include Guard and Reserve. I doubt you could do an inter-service transfer since you are facing HYT but it would clearly give you more info concerning a future military career. As former Navy enlisted E-6 myself, your options are pretty much exhausted and its a deep hole that you are in but you might be able to salvage a career.

A very good buddy I served in the AF with faced a 20-year career with retirement as an 0-3 after failure to promote to 0-4 (he was continued to 20 by the separations board). He subsequently separated from the AF and took a commission with the PHS and retired last year as an 0-5, failed to promote to 0-6 twice but retired with double his 0-3 AF retirement pay.

IF you have an appropriate college degree you can look into a commission as well. There are indeed medical programs that can be partially or fully paid for by one of the medical services (Army, AF, Navy, PHS). This assuming you meet the age requirements, undergrad degrees, etc. but there are age waivers based on your AD years.

What ever you do, you may have to write some sort of letter stating why you were not promoted.

I wish you well... I know the guard has a higher age limit and you could probably promote faster. I don't think you status would prevent you from transferring and I've done that twice. Once I reenlisted from the USNR to the Air National Guard when I was within one year of the end of my contract. Another time I transferred only two years into my contract. There are other options if you have at least an associates degree. Good Luck. Due to three bad marriages I did not retire but federal service is good to me and military time can count for retirement. Just a thought. USAJOBS.COM - prepare for all scenarios. Response by Sgt John Summers, CPCM made May 3 at 2016 10:22 AM 2016-05-03T10:22:17-04:00 2016-05-03T10:22:17-04:00 2016-05-02T01:26:46-04:00
