Oxford study seeks RallyPoint member advice

RallyPoint has teamed up with researchers from Oxford (led by a recent West Point graduate - 2LT Private RallyPoint Member) to conduct a survey that will compare transition services offered by the United States to services in place in the United Kingdom. The data from this survey will be presented to various U.S. government organizations with the intention to influence policy for future generations. If you would be willing to offer your experience, please take 15 minutes of your time to work through this quick 6 page survey.

The survey appears to be only for veterans no longer serving, but not for those of us still in the service. Am I missing something here?

the question need some more answers. I'm not active duty but still in the service. I am National Guard, I personally think we are different from the active TAP. We either have a job or don't. It is EXTREMELY hard to find a good job, or good pay because of this. Most employers will find other excuses to NOT hire you. For instance I was asked if I plan to get out on a recent job interview. Said no, I have 5 yrs to retire. I was told that I was a good candidate for the job and that they liked me. A friend, at the place I was trying to get hired for, said that the manager loved me but, They went with another candidate. Said it was my credit rating that was the problem.( which I think is crap to begin with.) All the Supposed jobs that hire vets or guard member are hard to find! and if they do hire they don't pay squat!

I completed this, and hope it helps. If anyone wants my 2cents....
Transition programs would benefit from:
1. Allowing for station of choice in the last year of service when available to help integrate to the local community.
2. Forming partnerships with local and national employers to help set up transition program with internships and training during the TAP program.
3. Focusing training on forming the civilian mindset as much as basic training demanded a switch to the military mindset.
A great person to bring into this conversation is PO3 Galon Miller.

This was a poorly constructed survey. If you checked that you are currently Active Duty in the beginning, the "I am separated" type questions are not tailored or grayed out. The results will be skewed as the questions don't make sense for some one active duty. (Ie I am employed but not in the civilian work force)

Recommend only polling separated service members or retooling the survey to tailor to still serving vice separated.

The era of service question did not account for people straddling eras. Recommend structuring the reply to allow for a "Mark all that apply" option. As an example, September 2001 - Presnt AND 1990-2000 both apply to me.

Completed. One thing to note, I do not believe it listed or separated National Guard/Reserves, as I don't think I ever once heard of TAP during my time in the National Guard. It may not be a fair analysis of the TAP program if it is not utilized the same way as Active Duty.

I am currently writing a mock report for a career advising course I am taking on career and education services for beneficiaries of VA and other education funds. The report focuses on ways to enhance and improve informed decision making regarding the use of aid available, and on support of the beneficiary before, during, and after utilizing these benefits.

Minor technicality - Marine E-4's are NCO's

Survey completed

with the ability to choose multiple answers and having to choose the best of choices does not make for accurate information. Should incorporate ability to choose multiples or be more exact in questions.

Answered the survey, but the results cannot help but be skewed given the differences between the US Reserve Forces and the UK Territorial Forces.
