I am assuming I will have a shot to go to air assault just like must of the people who is stationed there. Any advices of what should I Study/trained before going? Also, I am interested in doing combatives but unfortunately my losing unit is not doing combatives any more fort COVID related/ “people can get injured” type of bullshit. Do they have the same politics over there as well? No idea ID my MOS is relevant but just in case I am 11B What should I study prior to attending Air Assault School? 2022-04-13T18:17:00-04:00 SPC Private RallyPoint Member 7622988

I currently have orders to PCS and hopefully I will be leaving next month. You need to be physically ready for the run and obstacle course since that is what will allow you to continue the rest of day zero. Get ready for weekly rucking, so toughen up those feet!

If your unit does select you to do AASLT, a proper leadership will ensure that you do a run through of the course to see if you are ready. One bit of advice is this is not like BASIC or AIT in that they do not repeat everything 4-5 times. Take notes during the sling loading phase and treat it like a civilian class you will need notes to review prior to your hands on practices. If you do not take notes it is a LOT to remember. You will also need to memorize from your notes for the final test. Also if your PCS is to the 101st, the policy for 11B's at Fort Campbell is to keep sending you over and over again until you pass the school. So always best to pass the first time and not get drilled for failure back at your unit.

Combatives are after my time in the Army so my advice there is take the lead from Hollywood and use the pistol..... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7YyBtMxZgQs

watch

Response by SPC Erich Guenther made Apr 14 at 2022 12:43 AM 2022-04-14T00:43:25-04:00 2022-04-14T00:43:25-04:00 PVT Mark Whitcomb 7624613

It has been 47 years since I went to the school so I'm sure much has changed. Running and rucking are the butt kickers. The rest is paying attention to detail and having a good memory. I recommend building up your physical strength and endurance. When I was at Ft. Campbell it was a requirement to get your air assault. I wish you the best of luck. Take care and stay safe. GET YOUR ASS IN SHAPE!! Air Assault School is physically demanding! The Cadre will teach you everything you’ll need to know. You just need to be prepared mentally to face & overcome fears you may not know you have! It’s called the 10 hardest days in the Army for a reason! But if you have a positive mental attitude and work hard, you’ll be the proud owner of a set of Air Assault wings in no time! EVERYONE goes to Air Assault School, at least once! If you’re an 11B, you’ll go until you earn your wings! I earned my wings on my 2nd try. Didn’t get past Zero Day the first time. Which is why I said GET YOUR ASS IN SHAPE!! If you can't meet the standards, you shouldn't be in the Army, IMO. 4 mile run under 36 minutes, 2 mile under 18 iirc. Then the standard rucks 6X1.5 hour, 12x3 hrs.
The obstacle course gets a lot of people. Again, not hard or physically demanding, more mind over matter.
Use the extra hands on time to your advantage.
Make damn sure you have the packing list every day.
Lastly, have fun.
