PCS to Fort Carson, CO https://www.rallypoint.com/answers/pcs-to-fort-carson-co

After 16 months in Korea I'll be PCSing to Fort Carson, CO in July. I'm supposed to have a sponsor here soon, but I'm not relying on it. I would like to know from anyone who's been there from experience what to expect. I've heard there is plenty of outdoor activities and the place is beautiful. I'm projected to be going to 4CAB. I've never been in a Combat Aviation Brigade. Anything would be appreciated. Thank you in advance!!! Also, I have always reached out to my gaining unit (S1 shop) to establish contact.

I've never been stationed at Carson, but have been there on temp duty and vacations, beautiful place! First and foremost, acclimatization to the altitude is going to be a temporary obstacle. Family or no family? Real estate is pretty pricey. Rentals go quick, maybe not so quick in the winter. Get a realtor. Zillow and similar apps are often day late And dollar short. Coming from overseas I would urge you to get and leverage a sponsor. Depending on your MOS and installation strength, you may get reassigned. Have all your pcs related paperwork and copies. The finance piece at in processing went well, trust but verify. As a former USAF-type, I've got nothing to contribute as regards the post itself. Good Luck.

As regards the local area, I would suggest / encourage you to take advantage of inter-collegiate events at USAFA. Great environment for spectators even though the teams typically aren't very competitive with a few exceptions. Many units set up their own tailgating events for the home football games - last tour I was there, there were a dozen of us who never even went in to watch the games, but stayed in the lot and EN-joyed ourselves and the occasional adult beverage (responsibly of course). My Son In-Law and daughter are there and they love it. There is plenty to do there that is for sure. It is a highly populated area with plenty of shopping and restuarants. As far as outdoors there is hunting, rock climbing, hiking and skiing just for a few. The area is beautiful. 1SG Private RallyPoint Member Wed, 15 Apr 2015 14:30:01 -0400 2015-04-15T14:30:01-04:00 Response by SFC Private RallyPoint Member made Apr 22 at 2015 2:01 PM https://www.rallypoint.com/answers/pcs-to-fort-carson-co?n=609683&urlhash=609683

I was stationed at Carson back in 2009. It was a FANTASTIC duty station. There are a few things I can help you out with.

1) Avoid Academy BLVD as much as you can. It is busy, torn up, and prone for accidents.
2) Plenty of great housing around, if your married/have dependents. If not, the barracks life isn't too bad, and BOSS is constantly having trips out to various places around.
3) Travel! There is a lot of outdoors things to do.
4) Avoid Trinidad (Sex Change capital out there).
5) There is a great Renaissance Festival not too far from the Springs. Look it up, you will have a blast.

If you have any other questions, feel free to message me. Enjoy Colorado, it is a truly great place to be stationed. I am a little jealous.
