PCSing to Alaska. I know we need passports to go thru Canada. I was told I need a memo from CO authorizing the drive. Trip takes 3-4 days, and bypasses Canada altogether. Might be fun. Suggest you look into it if something like that would interest you. You will need to go online and develop a driving plan. Your per day driving will be limited to a few hundred miles. You will need to register this trip on I think it is called &quot;trip Tix&quot;. You will need a vehicle inspection to include a license and proof of insurance and lastly the permission of your garrison. Drives over a certain distance from your installation require a permit from the Command team. You will also need to notify the receiving unit of your travel plans. While driving your are usually on duty as it is part of your PCS. (Mild exaggeration.) Check with your 1SG or CSM to see what the policy is. My family did need passports, but other than that there was nothing else required. I have never heard of a CO authorizing a particular type of travel.
