PCSing to Hawaii: how are the barracks? https://www.rallypoint.com/answers/pcsing-to-hawaii-how-are-the-barracks

So I found out last month that I will be heading to Schofield Barracks, HI at the end of the year. I know it's going to be an amazing experience and everything. I just want to know how are the barracks there? I know those barracks were quite old and not the best, however I seen that they were getting the barracks redone to make it 1/1 housing. The exteriors are kept the same way they were back in 1941, complete with bullet pock marks in the walls from the Japanese Zeroes. As far as the interiors go, I couldn't tell you, but I will say that some of the 'Newer' barracks were being built when I left in 2000.

Have a great time there and make sure you get out to the North Shore for some fantastic snorkeling!

"TROPIC LIGHTNING!" Some were built within the past 8 years or so and are the 1+1 standard. There's a lot of construction that was going on when I left last July on the old buildings. They were completely gutting out the inside and remodeling them into the 1+1 standard while leaving the buildings infrastructure and outward appearance in tact. Do you have a unit of assignment? Have fun, get out and explore!!! I had the most amazing time there and hope to go back. Especially because a year of my 3 was spent in Afghanistan unfortunately. Take into consideration most of the Soldiers living there are young and don't always take cleanliness seriously. Think college dorm rooms. They're all the 1+1 which works I guess although I personally am not a fan. I'd rather have one bigger room to share so there can be a "living area" and a sleeping area separate from each other. Privacy is nice but I'd rather sacrifice that and just tell my roommate to make himself scarce if I needed some time to myself but that's just my .02 cents.
