Point Chasers, Meme Makers, News Reporters, Link Posters, and Mass Taggers, Are they helping or hurting RP?

I have been with Rally Point for a good while. I have seen some great leaders provide some great advice. I can honestly thank many out there from a E-2 Vet to a Retired COL. Maybe it is just me but I am beginning to question much of the content here. Some of us are thinking it and I will take the unpopular stance and say this.

When it comes to Points I couldn't care less. If someone wants all my point you could gladly have them. I would rather be known for my development of others, shared knowledge, questioning even the most basic logic in the military, and not for some Meme. I do enjoy them but if I seen another question about a Meme I may have to take a hiatus. I have Facebook and Instagram for that.

I have learned so much here and would like things to stay that way. A quick why to lose some is have to find the real discussions about real issues that affect the military among Which meme is your favorite when you are sitting at CQ.

I like to have fun but I fear that this may get out of hand. Or maybe I am being a Donnie Downer. The latest trend is the "New Reporters" and the "Link Posters." I come here for the intellectual content. I will post a link but as I have been told in my discussions my content really is the driving the factor and the link is my reference. It is like when you write a paper for college on a book you. You just don't rip out a page and turn those in. To me they are just low information posters that offer little to no intellectual content. I don't even know if they know it to be honest. It is something that concerns me as a member.

I think we need a balance between the fun stuff and the serious stuff, but lately, I've noticed a lot more "fun stuff" vs. serious discussions.

Also, there's been quite a few topics lately (mainly revolving around religion & politics) that got a little "hotter" that they probably should have gotten.

I think you should have made this a survey to really get the feel across the RP community.

I can see a place for both on this site and it helps to keep the camaraderie side of the military as well as supporting the professional and growth portions. I have noticed a bit of an overflow lately from the silliness (mostly from what I can see is LTC Private RallyPoint Member) but I hope that we are at least helping those who have questions to have adequate assistance with their professional development questions such as does a 2LT salute a 1LT.

I myself tend to be on the sillier side, but also try to give an honest opinion about the more serious nature of things when applicable. I think it may be the personality of the services in general, we are so serious when on duty and in uniform and so we tend to be a bit more on the silly side when off duty to try to balance things out.

I almost missed this thread because it was buried in pictures. First of all, I love your influence score picture. Well done. It's pretty close to reality. Everyone knows how serious I am and don't like to joke around too much. So maybe I'm the wrong guy to comment. This is evident in my recent back and forth with MAJ Private RallyPoint Member . If you find a way to game the system, then go for it. Just don't be mad when someone makes you aware of their displeasure about your tactics.
I like a balance, but I don't like flooding and losing good information from an endless array of jokes or pictures.
It is also annoying to be questioned about professionalism in the same thread where posts that are clear SHARP violations are posted by the same said person.

I have never cared about the points personnally.

I am not far from transitioning out of the military so I have really felt the need to connect and find all the benefits, knowledge and resources that will make this transition easy for me and my family.

I also know the COO, AARON KLETZING, he is a great friend of mine and I am proud to be part of what he helped create.

I think you make some very valid points, however I think there can be room for both. This is a topic that internet forums have addressed (I will use a car enthusiasts’ forum as an example) by segregating discussions/post by topic. I am a regular on an Audi forum that went from 25 users to thousands in a matter of a few years and what started out as mostly technical discussions soon spiraled into everything from photography to "what does your screen name mean?".

The site now has ~30 sub-forums that allow users seeking technical questions about engines, suspension, ect to find it easily, and people that want to chit-chat about everything else to find a place to do so.

Maybe this is possible for RP? Instead of one mass "Updates" tab, RP could create different content sections, not unlike how LinkedIn has different interest groups that people join and have separate discussions...

There is a time and place for MEMEs and like others have said it is good to have a little fun to break up the monotony. I think some do it just to get the points. I will tag people that may have information for a said topic or just the person if I responding in a thread.

Sir, isn't there an option to not see these threads? I don't have a problem with it all because threads like this allow people to mix fun in with the serious. RallyPoint is great because each user can choose their own form of interaction. I never have a problem looking for the issues, but I am careful around political issues and those that are about religion. These two subjects will always cause problems (especially religion) I don't think religion has any place on The Point. That's just me though I guess.

I see where you're coming from Sir. The whole tagging mess for the sake of points is a bit much. Facebook is great for that. Memes, when used right, are quite humorous. RP is not flooded with them, but theres definitely a change in water levels. Based on perspective some may or may not agree; either they dont care, havent noticed or participating in said activity.

I personally have only posted a few discussion pieces so far and only one of those was the "fun" stuff but it was mainly to balance out all the serious topics I had been posting. While being serious is always beneficial, sometimes it is nice to break the tension or offer a discussion that members can "let loose" on. However, maybe a better tact would be to time them better but I do not think they take away the seriousness of other issues.

CPT Private RallyPoint Member recently I posted a question about the AWC, I thought it was a good discussion since it has work great for me and I wanted to spread the word. I got not a single response, then I check the updates and SPC Lord of the Rings has a discussion of a messed up question, as always, with thousands of responses, me included. I think it is not about the Memes or the points, is about what people follow. I can post a great discussion but if nobody answers or vote it up, I won't get any point. So it is not what people post but what people responds to. As you say, those were my 2 cents.

I'm somewhat new here but I don't mind the memes and stuff, I like a good mixture. If I see a thread that doesn't interest me or that I think is silly, I don't click on it. If I come across a meme that I don't find funny, I just keep scrolling.

I agree CPT Private RallyPoint Member . I've noticed lately that there are a lot more Meme threads which are fun at times but it does make it more difficult to find the more thought provoking threads and discussions which is what I like about RallyPoint.

Maybe if there were a section "just for fun" that we could put all of the Meme and joke pages. That way, when we are wanting to laugh we could click on it and go to the funny threads but if we didn't click on it then we wouldn't have to wade through them.

The more I am on Rally Point the more I find buried with in all the posts. While I never mind digging for data, it does become a little annoying seeing double poster (People who post the same thing twice) or numerous silly threads about the same thing. BUT it is also a way for our community to laugh together. Some times our conversations do turn serious and I will admit I got into a religious topic that went way to far and I had to pull away.

Point is we are Human. No one is the same as the next person no mater who they are. Some are on here for fun, some for contacts, some are here for serious business and some just want to watch the world burn. (Sorry had to toss in a Batman reference it seems fitting.)

I have no problem with point horders. I pretty much ignore them, only thing I would really Change is the Double Posts. Maybe a moderator could clean them up? As for censoring the Issues, I would never suggest that. That is a Slippery slope you really don't want to go down.

I like it all. Sometimes the comments and sarcasm can get away from us, but that is ones personality showing through. I don't know who does it just for points, but like you, I could care less about my "score".
I like the discussions I find here. True to the sites intent or not...
I always like to read everyone's comments and see what the majority think. I also like to read and see how much knowledge we all have collectively! It is truly amazing how we can all come together sometimes.

I actually stopped coming on a while back because it turned into a military Facebook, filled with people posting photos and jokes unrelated to the questions or service in general. It was a professional network for a bit with some funny stuff, now it seems to be filled with people bashing other branches and posting pictures of uniform deficiencies and saying how they would have corrected the evil perpetrators. Oh well all good things must be ruined at one point or another. I just realized that this should be my last time dropping in to ol' rally point, so farewell to the professionals im out.

Honestly, I didn't know there was a point system in place.
On straight forward discussions, I respond straight as an arrow.
If there's a chance to be funny, I'll take it. Like the "worst deployment location" thread. I didn't go to Iraq or Afghanistan, instead the army sent me to the loveliest, scenic parts of Ecuador, el Salvador, etc. Either alone or with some medical personnel who shouldn't be trusted with flashlights much less matches.
Now some threads I don't touch and hope they die quickly, the female ranger debate, election 2016, Hillary Clinton, Obama, anything looking like a left v right topic.
I think they are poison for current servicemembers, especially since at least one documented instance of someone being tracked down and held to account. I think they are worthless for anyone with a 214. No one has ever had their mind changed over a discussion on a web site.

Some time back I discovered, as the FNG, that [1] it is easy to get sucked into tempting discussions of hot topics and [2] you can amass enough points and connections and things from these exercises that mysterious badges begin to show up in your profile.

(I am tempted to paraphrase Groucho with something like "any org that would classify me as being within the top 1% of veterans probably needs to be loaded on the 3/4-ton and sent to over to Depot for calibration".)

As I stated in a similar thread earlier, I joined RP because I wanted to gain a grasp of the culture in the present day US military, which is in many ways quite foreign to a 3-year man from the end of the Viet-Nam era. I also have perhaps one or two things I could contribute.

Truth be told, a lot of the frivolous stuff is as educational to me as the serious stuff. For the rest, if I am tired of the frivolous, I can generally supplement my own wetware topic filter with the RP category filter.

I am new here so I haven't really been caught up with the points thing. I think it is too much work to sit here and try to gain a million points. However the idea of this site is amazing. Being forced out of the military way before I wanted to (medical) and having a site like this where I can feel connected to the place I miss the most is amazing.
I mean we bash on each other I get that, however full out picking fights and bullying is really uncalled for. All of this nonsense over a silly point system, I mean is just completely juvenile. We are supposed to be influential to the future generations, we are "heroes", "idols", we are supposed to be the best of the best right?!?

Too many meme's are affecting the majority now. I think they should cease and desist for a while. Some of them were funny along with the replies but it's time to move on if that's what the majority wants. These problems popping up can be controlled, but only by the ones who post. I've said for a while RallyPoint's greatest threat is proliferation of low-value content causing high quality users to disengage or opt out entirely.

I think there's a few control measures in place (the groups tool that is being built out will help some) and our self-policing is a big part of it.

Do you "care more about the serious conversations" like most people claim they do? Then act on it: participate in those threads seriously, comment and vote them up. Ignore the low value content you don't want to see. If it's downright unprofessional vote it down or report it.

This is on us as a community.

I have no real idea of how the points thing works, it does not matter much to me. Getting involved and participating in discussions that are of a professional nature and many giving great insight that to me, really brings home the reason to be here.
I have no illusions that anything I say will have an impact or change anything. I do like that members from across services and experiences can show how policies and people develop differently in different services and in different duties.
The value I find in the points is just letting others know i appreciate what they are saying or sharing or when I need, base on facts not opinions will vote down. Seems the points matter to some people, others just only want to hear they are right and many others yet are like myself, I track discussions and the general way people feel or are commenting on a topic.
Guess point, money, value added or whatever, all have a reason for being here, the points thing is just one more for some who keep up with that sort of thing.

Unusual, don't think so, after all, how many military are taught to punch tickets, hit all the steps, being right is the only thing to be and either move up or move out. LOL Numbers in the military take on a very different meaning. we are not all retired on here.

Then finally, as sure as I sit here, there are NCO's, and other mid level managers looking at the Facebook page of their subordinates and probably RallyPoint as well and "Monitoring" their participation. That is also a real duty of many leaders today.

I think only the ones that people care about will be trending. If someone doesn't care about a certain topic, then in my opinion it fall to the bottom.

I could be wrong, maybe I haven't figured out the savviest way to keep a conversation going (all of my discussions only generates a dozen or responses at the most), but I take it that people weren't as interested, and I am ok with that.

Mass taggers? I like this option. I've never used it to the fabulous capacity that some RPrs have, but I understand the function. Personally, if I am in a situation where I need some specific expertise, I wouldn't hesitate to use it.

And if the memes were outlawed, I'd have bad days. And if I have bad days, my classes suck. And if my classes suck, I get bad grades. And if I get bad grades, I won't graduate. If I don't graduate, I can't get a good job. If I can't get a good job, I can't continue my internet. If I can't continue my internet...you, Sir, are to blame for my lack of future ability to purchase OCP camo for my Lotus.

Personally I find the mass taggers and points chasers are usually counterproductive to the discussion at hand. I've had discussions where an individual would post 4 times trying to make the same point or tag people who weren't even participating. This behavior is why I don't have a twitter account and log into Facebook sparingly. I would prefer to interact with people on Rallypoint in a professional manner. That is why I joined.

OK so I have been thinking about this post and I really like the idea of RP. I have met individuals and networked with these individuals and RP is the sole reason. In my initial post I pointed out that I am guilty of meme building, posting things like "lol" and maxing out my thumbs up per day to beat that next damn SGT in front of me so I can be the buck Sergeant to rule them all. I find that mind set may be killing RP as RP is a direct reflection of the Military and if no one has paid attention the Military is full of Alpha male/females and strong beta males/females who are overly competitive and have huge egos.

I suggest that posts under a set amount of words only not count or count for only for maybe 1 point per ten words with a max of 50 points (rewarding posts that are well though out) because the current system gives the same point values to a "lol" and a well thought out and written piece of advice.

Also make people qualify a thumbs up so someone like me can just check his/her current updates and thumbs up down the line getting 75ish points. The qualification does not have to be big but maybe ten or so words. So I thumbs up SFC Mark Merino's and CW5 Private RallyPoint Member's post because its totally awesome due to X, Y and Z.

I know that it would require additional scripting (and possibility a dab of coding) but this site LOOKS LIKE (but unsure) a wordpress base. I run a gaming community (EVE, DDO, WOT and BF4) and have several members who are Military that may help with that if you have issues sourcing it with the RP staff.

I comment on what interests me and i make threads on things I want to hear what people have to say about. I guess being an RP 1% is all nice and good, but its not going to get me a job or put food on my table so I do not worry too much about it.

There will be point chasers on here. It's set up to reinforce being active. We're built that way. Who else would do the things we do for little pieces of cloth and brass? When the site tells you that you're awesome for doing something, some people are going to chase after that. Those of us that take this a little more seriously probably won't go about mass tagging 50 people while asking what MEME best describes their spirit animal and whether or not that one should salute the other ones...and their wives.

I think that it isn't a big issue. People will get what they will from the site regardless of policy, points, rankings, or other bs. Have you ever seen Boondock Saints? After/during the credits there was a guy that claimed that putting the mic in his face was giving them power. That is roughly equivalent to the thread you have started here. By discussing it at length, you are in fact contributing to the perceived delinquency of the site. If you desire serious topics, then you should only entertain serious topics. I also realize that by saying all this I am as well, but I thought you needed to hear it.

I do enjoy the serious issues and responses, the helpfull advice and guidance from others and the ability to voice my views on these subjects; however I also enjoy the humor that can be found here. We Soldiers can have a sick and twisted idea of what is humorous and there are not too many places to share that (outside of work) anymore. Now that the O-clubs/NCO-clubs/E-clubs are gone from the military and most VFW post's are going "family friendly" where else can Soldiers go to releave some pent up "sick" battle humor?

It seems that Rallypoint has become clouded with content that strays away from the original purpose. There is still great content out there, but sometimes you have to search for it. I have become more selective about what discussions I will respond to since many topics are repeats and such.

I think points should be done away with. The true purpose of the site is to provide mentorship and share ideas in an unclassified setting; I would hope that everyone here is of the same mind. This is much like the AKO forums that we used to have, but it crosses the branches and I would think that this is a good thing.

Get rid of points, and medals and ARCOMs on rally point and just share knowledge. With the content, these response and question format isn't functional. Instead of trying to invent the wheel RP should be more forum based.

Specific places where each thing goes and an actual search query that works. This way people can either find what they want to talk about or meme's stay in their own lane type deal.

It's just become too cumbersome to find topics that are truly of interest to me. Don't get me wrong, I'm not opposed to a bit of fun, less formal, water cooler type posts, and I enjoyed them as much as any, but it just seems that the same things are brought up over and over again.

Echoing SGT(P) Private RallyPoint Member , I have tried to continue some discussions on veterans transitions or other areas more tied to the profession but the discussion are buried for days on posts about the new Army 9mm. My wishes and desires shouldn't take any priority over another, but I prefer to discuss the topics that involve thinking and issues where the commentary can matter. Asking me about the new uniforms or the next weapons doesn't seem to have utility to me, but that's just me.

What can I do to mentor, motivate, help the profession. As a former commander and now a proud retiree, I would always prefer RP to be a place where those serving can strive to get better and those of us longer in the tooth can help those still serving (while learning plenty along the way).

I beleive all of us need a place that makes us think, offer thoughts and opinion with substance and not emotion or overt biasis. If not RP, then where? Great post, CPT Private RallyPoint Member . Take my points, challenge my mind, improve the profession!

I took the time to read through all 187 posts on THIS topic (as of my response), and the overwhelming majority of responses is clear to me. As a veteran who left the service decades ago, I have very little to contribute to the professional inquiries and experience requests. I get that.

Thanks to everyone who's enlightened, educated and entertained me here on RP. Like I said above, I appreciate being part of RP. Each of you are precious to me and my family, and I pray for your safety and comfort and well-being every day.

I joined Rally Point to associate with Soldiers, Sailors (deep water and shallow water), Marines, and Airmen. I enjoy living, paling, working, and joking around with veterans, they are my kind of people. I may participate in a discussion of a serious topic, but veterans expressing their opinions to each other on an important mater is not going to mater (unless they organize for a political campaign), and it is not why I joined.

If I share on Facebook I get double points, right.

Looks like I'm a part off the 11%. LOL This place can be a good resource; but it's a social media for military members, past and present; so it can be anything we want it to be. I like the humour that mostly military people like us really only get, the serious discussions are good; and we can also learn new things here. I don't see a reason to be serious about this. It is good as it is, well blended on topics ranging from serious, educational, and humorous.

One easy solution that I'd love would adding an "unfollow" button to a thread much in the way you can unfolllow a friend on Facebook who constantly posts stupid stuff. So many discussions now are driving MEME nuts.

This is a social network and that's how social networks perform. They're lounges, generally for people to socialize and have fun. I would never want to be a part of a online community that's full of stiff, rigid, highly micromanaged (mostly political) content. Maybe it does get a little too cluttered but that's because of how this place is designed. Had it been designed with categories like a forum perhaps we could have multiple topics, and multiple areas of discussion, some serious and others not so much, and still maintain a proper environment that's appropriate for all. Other than that I say let the community have fun and be fun because that's why we're here. I don't care for the points one way or another.

The only thing I can suggest is add two more topics to the menu bar, one for light-hearted discussions and one for topics that generate heat. Add a filter so those that choose not to participate don't have to see them in the general Updates and Answers pages. That would eliminate the "noise" for those who only want to see serious topics.

I don't have any issues with this site except for one. Occasionally, there are comments made about our military and political leadership that really should not be posted here. I feel like it is unprofessional and highly risky, particularly for those of us who are still wearing the uniform as an active duty member or a reserve component member. While we are free to have our own opinions, they have to be carefully worded in a forum like this. Some comments are better left unwritten period. Beyond that, I think this is a very good website for all of us who hold one thing in common, service to our community, state and nation.

CPT Private RallyPoint Member apparently, the fastest way to get points is to add the icon of the state flag to EVERY city on the map (when you search location). It does nothing to help the community, or the website, but the points will flow to you like wine. Spread the word.

Good Evening, Sir, since I was asked to come to this site, I can give my OPTION, in a Generalized way to help each person question. I look at this more as a ROUNDTABLE that is just outside the LTCs Battalion or Bragade, and need that off the CUFF, sometimes Kick in the GUT answer.

He or She knows if would normally not FLY under TRUE REG standards, but the answers given will be the most BRUTELLY TRUTHLY, even if it was a person he or the unit liked but charges was soo great, ARTICLE 15, being shipped to S. Korea and let another LTC handle the person to try to redeem the person, or just DRUM the person OUT the CORP.

Now, I JUST gave an EXAMPLE from a TRAINING NCO, that worked betwen HHB and a Battalion LTC/CSM for 2 yrs with TS plus Clearance, that took calls from the post command at FT Riley, KS. so each service will be different. I am a little diffent, in that my friends know I will also post this same information on LINKEDIN my professional site. which includes command staff, so I am Political, and watch what say, so I cover their backs also not to leval my friends OUT TO DRY.

I love the site for what it is, a social site for military past and present. A conglomerate of like minded individuals getting together to share info, stories, jokes, or seek advice. Exactly what you would do at work with your peers. I pay attention to the topics that interest me and scroll by the "look at my new puppy" posts. As for your question; it does get annoying to see the same person pop up again and again with broad or irrelevant (in my opinion) questions designed as troll bait. I think you have a valid point, but seeing your stats I scrolled through some of the multitude of discussions you started and stopped when I came to "what is your favorite drink, deployed and stateside?" It seems that you might fit into the very category of RP user you are questioning. I could be way off Sir, but respectfully, "Me thinks the LT doth protest too much"

Why so Serious? When you get to a certain point, the points don't matter, but the comaraderie is all I look for on this site. I blend with my environment. I am home. I care less about the points. The points can be an addictive part of RP, and gets more vets involved, so it is ingenious, whoever thought it up. What a great site. I hope Our number one guys doesn't shut down the server when RP stops printing points. Uncle Mark, that was directed at you, lol.

When I look at my feed, I see mostly conversations about the "religious discrimination" of Christians, conversations that bash the president, conversations that bash "liberals & leftists" and a lot of sensation-stories that tend to be quite divisive. I have gotten suckered into a few, it would be a lie to say I didn't.
For the most part the conversations are kept professional, but I have seen threads where one group is calling the other group baby-killers or vice versa.
The point system in stupid, I'm not sure why it is here or essential.

I joined RP very recently and do find it annoying how often I have to scroll past re-posted discussions and content more suitable for Facebook. It would be nice if RP stopped showing me "Updates" that I've already ignored and scrolled past, or maybe there is a setting I haven't found that does that.

I'm seeing way too much dumps from news sources with the "what do you think"? I think news dumping is damaging. It you make it hard enough to sift to get to real stuff, people will give up. I've only been on for maybe 6 months and have already backed away because I have better things to do than sift. Enough of that. Gotta go and referee some high school games!

Speaking as a relatively "new" member, and a veteran, as opposed to an AD service member, might I make a few respectful suggestions? First off, if something is possible, someone will find a way to do it. If there are subjects, content, or themes the RP community wishes to remove, post rules...give warning for first offenders (direct to them), then remove from site. Second, I for one respect the fact that an E-5 currently serving has infinitely greater consequences for their comments than I do. However, if you allow we "former" folks on here, you're also getting the flavor of our experiences outside the service...for better, or worse. Again, the AD RP'ers should control that call. Finally, there is an implied bending of the protocols of "custom" here in that we do have a wide range of ranks, experiences and specialties present. If a Brigadier General wished to comment on a post made by an E-3, not too many folks are going to try and stop them. Likewise, if a serving NCO and a retired officer get into a hot debate, who will step in and advise them of the possible ramifications when a junior enlisted member sees that? These sorts of posts appear to be more and more common, and as the very last thing I want to do is be "that guy", I'll close by re-iterating; post the SOP, define the enforcement, correct individuals...If I'm one in the red, you can be certain I'll get on board.

I have seen a pretty wide selections of topics to comment on; some I read, some I feel strongly enough that I need to respond publicly. We absolutely need to maintain the professional component because there is a lot of serious stuff occurring, we need to teach the FNGs from our experiences and we need to acknowledge the life you might find and resources out there when you retire or separate. My questions have been an attempt to address healthcare at the VAs and get an idea of how it's working around the country. Having said that, I think we need to keep some humor. That's real world. Human beings cannot live without an outlet for humor or creativity. For me, my family grew up with puns and sudden twists of words. These still catch my eye and I can't help lobbing one in once in a while even if they stink or as we use to say : 2/3 of a pun PU. Point system. I am never gonna catch the front runners and I don't care. I just hope I can learn enough before they abandon ship (RP.). Mass taggers, I don't know how but I hope for input from as many different sources, ages, services, and experiences when I post a question..

I was thrilled to find this site with such a wide range of participants, opinions, history, planning and fun I get to talk about things I would not feel comfortable bringing up on FB or Linked In. So for those who gave birth to RP, thank you.

I can say I have never looked at points in RP. I joined to be a part a group with relevant and interesting subject matter. Will more points get me more retirement pay? No, I am interested in topics that affect other retiree's and myself. I read with interest the comments from all.

I used to think we were too serious when I first joined RP, now I long for those days. We have in my opinion on here more Facebook-like crap than the good threads we used to. I'm growing weary of RP these days because of it. I have spoken privately to others who feel the same. I wish staff would listen. I'm sick of webmd junk and links from the national enquirer bring back the RallyPoint I used to know and love!

It does seem like there are a lot of non related and political post. But I have always tried to turn a complaint into action. So I ignore what I see as unrelated topics and try to post content to support the military community. I really think I have been given much in this world and would like to give some back.

I joined to reconnect to the military community.

If the original purpose has a specific focus or purpose that the site is straying from, an idea is to make that original purpose more readily available.

New people like me join, see posts, and start going with it. If the site needs a self-correction, perhaps an understanding of commander's intent is a start.

For the most part, RP appears to be an example how military persons can communicate across rank. Also, how to write.
Notice how some write better than others and have used tone within their statements. If this type of media existed when I was active duty, I would have learned from it. It would have helped me. How many are being helped just reading and watching?
There are some that post and tag in higher numbers. But, I think they do it out of caring for others. They want to help people. Not get points.
Just like any military base with thousands of personnel, some will have subjects that do not interest others. You may like nothing but military posts. While others enjoy all types of subjects on a military website.
I have noticed, some subjects are avoided. Not due to fear. But, to keep an even keel.

In some ways, this has turned into a facebook-like platform. My wife and I dumped FB about 6 months ago. I am finding most "social media" sites are meme driven and lean one way quite heavily. Not what I am looking for. I am even trying out a newer site called http://minds.com and so far am not impressed. Way too mush "like me" and not enough discussion. And yes, I am guilty of dropping a meme here and there and calling it a post.

Mass tagging and the rest lead away from quality and the overall educational aspect of RP. No quality exists in a dozen replies of "thanks for sharing" with 20 odd members tagged. I don't favor any point system, but especially for work that has no real value, other than affirming someone got the post. If points are deemed relevant, then stick to a points system assigned by the readers. Affirmation of receipt rates zero points because it only involves a few keystrokes and limited thought or research. Something similar to a sliding scale would work better, where points are assigned by the reader (scale of 1-5 with 5 being best). In order to reply, one must first read the article and assign a score with comments. This exceeds the status quo of being first to reply to something that has not even been read.

I am relatively new to RP, but I signed on as a USAF Disabled Vet and I found communicating with people of a similar mindset is just what the doctor ordered... There are some things that are posted as informative, but are somewhat lackluster, but I have found most of the subjects entered for discussion are informative and improve people's lives and perspective on issues and thoughts that affect everyone of us... We are people first, everything else is what we have chosen to do, whether one is in the military, retired or a Veteran... Some of us joined the military out of high school, some joined as officers, still others joined, put their time in and became veterans who went on to college, went on to become highly successful in business and industry... and are now retired... All of that said, our common thread is our Military Service to our Country...

I for one am the person who joined during my first year in college, hated it, and joined the USAF, was wonderfully educated in Electronics, fulfilled my four-years and went on to College while raising a family. I hold two university degrees and a certificate in accounting and finance from Wharton... I love Physics, Astronomy & Space, Education, Motivational topics, and a whole host other elements, including the DAV - Disabled American Veterans, and Credentialed voluntary work with the VA... I am 76-Years old, of sound mind and As I stated, we are people first and I thoroughly enjoy the camaraderie of all of the RP members I have had the pleasure of communicating with... God Speed Everyone!

Lighten up Francis. Use your intellectual skill to determine what discussions you want to associate with. Personally, I don’t like jokes or memes, I find it stupid but there’s many that do, especially the younger soldiers. Don’t you think things have been serious enough for them???
