Valdosta State University protesters walk on flag..what could have been done better in this situation?

I couldn't believe they were protesting slavery by walking on the flag that allows them the freedom to exercise their right to free speech...your thoughts?

Good for her for having the passion and courage to try to stop the protesting. The Supreme Court needs to make funerals and the American flag sacred.

I think on one level, I actually support their 1st Amendment Right to do this crap BUT I also would say that this was Michelle Manhart's own political expression and she had the right to do what she did. You don't have the right to steal someone's property BUT when you trash something, it seem you are surrendering it and in special case of OUR Flag, their is an inherent duty for it to be properly disposed of? Not sure if she had legal advice, but she kept stating 'Our flag' and 'properly disposed'. "No, I was not stealing, I was just properly disposing of our flag.' I am in, if I was juror?

There are no winners in this scenario in my imagination, and it is pointless to protest something that transpired 150 years ago.

The university supported the protesters, which is a disgrace. They banned the Veteran from the properties. That isn't a kind gesture toward supporting veterans or the flag.
