I emailed ahead to find out if that was acceptable, as I am not about to send out my personal information, either. The email I received back said that was a perfectly acceptable format, and so I did, and my account was 'verified'. As well, if one of your former battle buddies is already on and verified, he or she can 'endorse' your credibility.

SGT James P. I got my friend from my one ship to confirm I was a vet. Some other sites let everyone in and the result is a huge amount of spam, tends to turn people off. LT Stephen Amiaga Tue, 05 Nov 2013 11:20:31 -0500 2013-11-05T11:20:31-05:00 Response by SGT Ben Keen made Dec 13 at 2013 3:41 PM https://www.rallypoint.com/answers/potential-for-identity-theft-pretty-concerned-about-it?n=20338&urlhash=20338

I keep a copy of my DD214 stored on a flash drive with my SSN and other PII stuff blacked out that I than use for things like this. But I can see your point, you just never know.
