After a 5-year break in service, if I reenlist into the NG as an MOS-qualified 11B, do I have to go back through OSUT?

I was looking into re enlisting with the Guard, prior AD 11B. I got out in 2016 so I hit my 5 year out mark. I’ve been told that because I’m MOS qualified as 11B I don’t have to go back through OSUT, just basic. Can anyone confirm this?

SPC Matthew Storey have you talked to a NG Recruiter yet? I am almost certain you will have to do Basic again, however for 11B I would imagine them having you do the whole OSUT again... however the guard works its own deals out it seems with prior service guys. If you are MOS Qual'd than what would the point be... best of luck and hopefully it is just basic!

I had a 5.5 year break and did not have to go thru Basic again. In your case, since you would be wanting to come back in as 11B MOS-Q, 50/50 chances. Was it a Recruiter that told you Basic only?

I had a 19 year break in service, from 1989 to 2008. Came into the Guard (prior Regular Army) without going back to anything, retained E-5, did have to go to a reclass MOS school for a new MOS.

Talk to a recruiter, see what critical MOSs they need to fill, and be willing to walk away if it doesn't sound good. I didn't like what was offered and walked away. Got a call from the BN CSM asking me what the problem was, and he smoothed things out for me.

Your mileage may vary, depending on the state you're in and what shortages they have.

Once you completed an MOS Bearing Training you don't have to repeat it, but a refresher course would be worth it if you can get it, Good Luck.
