Prior service reenlisting would I continue my career with time served and would my previous served years help promotion?

I'm currently reenlisting after I was discharged from the reserves honorably at the rank of E3. I'm going active duty. Would they continue my career from the 8 years or would I start over for my 20? Would time in service help me with faster promotions?

Your TIS will be reflected on your pay, so no real difference there. As for your rank, you will start over for the TIG in the rank you come back in with before the next promotion because your DOR will get reset.

It depends on how long your break in service was. You can find the exact amount of credit you receive for your time in grade in AR 600-20 Army command policy under enlisted date of rank.
As for your question about years, only your active duty time counts for an active duty retirement, but your 8 years will count toward your time for pay.

Yes. You will get credit for time, and DOR.

Depends on how they write up the contract. I believe you get your rank back where you left and they go forward.

Yes, you will continue from 8 years and have the option to retire after the completion of 12 good years. they may reduce your rank to E2 however, your prior experience may advance you alone much quicker.

TIS is literally the amount of years you have served so what you had carried forward. However TIG will reset. Say if you got out as an E-3 then you will likely come back in as an E-3 and will go forward as if you had just got promoted to that rank and have to work forward towards E-4.

I would think that Prior Service would help in determining Meeting Time In Service eligibility!

What was your last active duty rank A.I.T.? That is what you will go active with.

Time in service will count towards promotion. Credit for the eight years is dependent upon whether your reserve unit was activated during the entire eight years. If not, there are ways to give you credit for the times you were on active duty.

Tough one to answer. I got out for 9 months as a SP/5 in the inactive reserves. The 9 months counted for me for pay the 26 years I spent on active duty.
