I’m a 92A, but I’m thinking about 68C or 92R (my state really needs that MOS) Besides passing the pt test, what else do I need to do? How can I retake the asvab?? Process to reclassing in the Guard?? 2019-07-15T15:05:11-04:00 PFC Private RallyPoint Member 4815639

I’ve been in for two years now. You can always ask, the worse that can happen is they can tell you no. But unless your current MOS is over strength and the one you want is very under strength, I wouldn't get my hopes up on changing in the middle of an enlistment.
You can ask your training NCO about retaking the ASVAB. A lot of soldiers retake it trying to get a high enough score for a particular MOS, so it shouldn't be a big deal. You must talk to a retention officer for reclassing. TBH if a unit is willing to reclass you then you are able to switch MOS. In the reserve we can reclass if we find a unit willing to reclass us or if we are in the IRR. You need a GT score of 107 and I believe an ST score of 101 for a 68C. If you don’t have that score then you must retake the ASVAB. If you were given an enlistment bonus, expect that to go away. The Guard gives you a bonus to do the position that you're currently in so chances are they'll take it away if you decide to change jobs...maybe. The good news is that if these are high demand MOSs, there may be a reclass bonus for you.
Next thing to consider would be if there is a unit close to your home of record. If you don't mind driving 9 hours to drill, disregard my last. I'm personally not a big fan of driving long distances for drill so it's something I take into consideration.
Finally and I can't stress this enough, go talk to a local ARNG recruiter. Your unit SHOULD have a Retention NCO. Figure out who that is and have a conversation with them. If they dont, call the recruiting office. One of the two will have all the info you need including how to retake the asvab. Note that 92R you must be airborne qualified prior to going to ait, so if you can get airborne before trying to reclass that’s one less step you have to take.
