I just made the promotion list for 1 June 15 and now my wife, also in the army, and I have been discussing what is expected at a promotion ceremony for MSG. So, what is expected? Some details to help you out. Been in the unit since Jan 15th. It's not a 1sg billet. Will likely be people from my previous unit at the ceremony. should I provide food? If so, what? Just a cake and beverages or a bigger spread? Thanks for the adviceTue, 19 May 2015 23:24:24 -0400Promotion expectations (What is expected at a promotion ceremony for MSG?)

Congratulations, AF perspective, I wouldn't go to overboard with it. Finger food and drinks and more than that high-fives and praise for those that did their part to help you there, mostly the junior enlisted.MSgt Brian WelchWed, 20 May 2015 00:01:06 -04002015-05-20T00:01:06-04:00Response by CSM Private RallyPoint Member made May 20 at 2015 1:38 AM

A "reception" is usually expected after a change/assumption of responsibility for a 1SG or CSM to welcome and congratulate the incoming senior enlisted leader. Finger foods, sandwiches, refreshments, and a type of dessert is usually the norm. I have never seen a reception after a promotion, not saying it doesn't happen but, I have never seen one. It's your ceremony and if you want to have a reception go for it.

Congratulation's on your selection/promotion!CSM Private RallyPoint MemberWed, 20 May 2015 01:38:59 -04002015-05-20T01:38:59-04:00Response by MAJ Robert (Bob) Petrarca made May 20 at 2015 5:35 AM

Congratulations!!

What CSM Private RallyPoint Member said. The incoming individual is responsible for the spread.

Though if you have a lot of friends, liquid refreshments at the after ceremony would be the more appreciated congratulatory gesture :-)MAJ Robert (Bob) PetrarcaWed, 20 May 2015 05:35:50 -04002015-05-20T05:35:50-04:00Response by SSG Melvin Nulph made May 20 at 2015 8:44 AM

I would agree with CSM Private RallyPoint Member nothing for the promotion but if you move into a 1SG slot then definitely at the COR.1SG Private RallyPoint MemberWed, 20 May 2015 09:16:53 -04002015-05-20T09:16:53-04:00Response by 1LT Private RallyPoint Member made Sep 27 at 2022 1:08 PM
