Promotion to SGT and backpay issues, what is the process I need to accomplish?

I was promoted to SGT on the first, however, i made the HRC list last march. The reason i didnt puck up was because according to my unit, i failed tape. In may of last year, the flag was lifted because it was wrong. The reg says that if the SM would have been promoted during the flag, that they will be promoted with the date of rank of when they made the list. My question is, to change my date of rank to last year, do i need to do a 4187 or is it a different process? Any advice helps. Thank you.

If I'm reading this correctly you mad the list for March of 2015, but was flagged because of tape. The flag was mistake and was removed two months after the fact but you were not pinned until 01 FEB 2016. Is that correct?

First of all, what kind of tape test did you fail? I only ask because looking at your pic you don't fit into the category of weigh and tape, then again pictures can be deceiving. Second, how has it taken this long to be pinned after making cutoff last year; soldiers these days tend to get relieved after six months non-compliance with the flag and bar to reenlist counseling. Third, if you were flagged the list is irrelevant, you should've not made it unless the flag was posted after the HRC cutoff, even so a flag automatically disqualifies you. Back pay is easy as long as regulations allow, I see you may of read up on AR 600-8-19, however did you read the DoD FMR Vol 7A which covers military pay? To my understanding back pay will only be granted to the official date on your promotion orders and not the HRC list; this is due to multiple variables however backup documentation such as flags can effect the DOR. ~ 36B finance & accounting

SGT Private RallyPoint Member this sounds like a case of making up for a lost time. I say that because if you were picked up on the 1st of Feb 2015, and you were a flagged on the 22 it seems as if your leadership didn't want you to get promoted. Also they did this not knowing clearly what the regs said about Soldiers on the promotion standing list. This is not your fault so you should be promoted with the DOR of 1 Feb 2015, and should get the back pay to reflect that date. Now back to reality you shouldn't put your self in the position to get unfavorable actions because not many leaders will try to assist you after you've done so. Senior NCO's look at that like a slap in the face, and don't want you in the Corps for that simple fact. Just my two cents. Welcome to the Corps, Lead, Develop, and achieve.

When were you taped, and why do you mention that the flag was wrong? In what way was it wrong, you weren't taped correctly, you didn't burst tape, what was it? SGT Private RallyPoint Member

SGT Private RallyPoint Member - I passed my board, and was pinned 7 months later. I had no flag, was in good standing all that. I didn't get back pay nor did they backdate my promotion orders.

Why I am saying this, is that they most probably will do nothing. It is an uphill battle.. I just let my experience tell me how uneven the loyalty between me and the Army really is.

Get with your S1 for assistance. I was due to be promoted to SGT but got flagged, I was flagged for 90 days and then the flag was lifted. I requested my date of rank be adjusted to the original day I was supposed to be promoted. Once that was complete I requested back pay for the 90 days. It was all done through a 4187 and supporting documents. Everything went before a board of corrections, the date of rank was easy but it took about six months to receive the back pay.

Don't ask why I was flagged let's just say I wasn't a very nice person back then. Good luck!

It seems to me your orders are correct documentation for promotion. Call finance up for the documentation.

I got promoted in Afghanistan and my pay was messed up to. All you need from S1 is your promotion orders, rank history, and an ERB then take it to the main finance building
