Having been activated several times while in the National Guard, I never had an opportunity to update my Class A's (Dress Greens). Now, 11 years later, I'm looking to update the uniform for my children. I really want to get it right, so my question is on the Unit Crest and respective Branch Insignia. As a 42A, should I keep it as the Adjutant General, or update it to Infantry which is the unit I was assigned to for the duration of my enlistment? Thank you

Use your branch. AG.

Your branch insignia is always based on your primary MOS, regardless of your assignment. I'm Signal, have always been Signal, and when I was on active duty with then 1st PERSCOM, a couple of AG NCOs tried to make someone change their RDI away from whatever it was to AG. They said even if they were wrong, she was going to be the one to change. A word from me to the SGM shut that stupid noise down real quick.

They didn't try to make me change. They knew better.

One wears the Branch Insignia of his/her MOS -- in your case, AGC brass. If your status is now retired, your 'unit crest' -- more properly known as Distinctive Unit Insignia -- is nothing. As a retiree, you have no unit of assignment. You can go to the PX/BX or MyExchange and buy a Retired, US Army cloth patch and wear it on your left Shoulder; if you are authorized a Wartime Combat Unit Patch, it is worn on the right shoulder. The foregoing is addressed to the wear of the Army Green Uniform. The current service uniform (formerly 'Dress Blues' ) and known as the army Service Uniform (ASU) has different placements for the "retired and FWCU insignia". AR 670-1 and DA Pam 670-1 has current info for the ASU.
