Proposal to adjust G.I. Bill so veterans can receive small business loans, is it a good idea or should something else be done?

G.I. BILL PROPOSAL WOULD HELP VETERANS RECEIVE SMALL BUSINESS LOANS

While reading the attached article, I immediately thought this was a great idea. However, the more I thought about it I began to question if this was the right way to go about it or just a quick fix rather than addressing a larger issue. The intent of the any of the G.I. bills has never been to use it in-conjunction with or as collateral for small business loans. With that being said, will much of the intended purpose of the G.I. bill be lost if this is adopted? Will the majority of service members/veterans shy away from education and pursue small business loans instead? If so, is it a big deal?

Part of the article below address a program that was created by the “Servicemen’s Re-Adjustment Act of 1944 (the same act that introduced the G.I. Bill) which provided low-interest loans for veterans to start a business. Would brining back a similar program be more beneficial to veterans and allow them to protect the education benefits they earned? What are your thoughts?

I'd say it has potential for benefit, but my concern is that when starting a small business, an entrepreneur takes a risk. Is the government really going to voluntarily take this risk?
