I see a definite shortage in BH providers for Veterans. I know guys who went from monthly therapy sessions to every other month and then longer because of the numbers of folks seeking help. We definitely need more providers and we need to get community BH providers to include programs for Veterans.

The shortage is both quantitative and qualitative. Not enough total and not the right kind of people with the right skill sets. Both the VA and Tricare have established incredibly high obstacles to who can provide care and be reimbursed. Additionally, despite bemoaning the fact there are insufficient providers with a military background, there are, to my knowledge, no programs to assist veterans in getting the education and hands on experience needed to get licensed and certified to practice, such as troops to teachers does.

Yes, there is currently a 60% shortage of qualified Doctors for psych and medicine
