Punishment for tattoos in the military (What are some possible punishments?)

Recently there has been some issues within my command about tattoos and the navy's policy about them. I would like to know who has seen in person what a co has deemed for punishment with them when they are out of regulations.

Shouldn't be any at this point as they have effectively done away with the strict policies.

Army has done away with their tattoo policy to the extent of nothing past the wrists and up the neck face head and scalp, navy has that and then says there can be nothing showing that is bigger than the wears hand fingers extended and the thumb at the base of the index fingers... But says nothing about spacing.

I suspect Tattoos go in and out of Fashion with the Military Hierarchy depending whether we are at War or not. When we are at War they are less picky. During Peacetime that is another story.
