Keeping violent people in prison would be a good start. Recidivism is very high among violent criminals and the best indicator of future behavior is past behavior.

Not to sure how to deal with the route cause of Violence but atleast on the grounds of firearm related violence one of the problems have to be illegal arms trafficking that we need some serious funding behind ATF and other law enforelcement agencies to be able to stem the flow of illegally procured firearms.

Violent crime (including homicide) has been on the decline for 40 years. It is a socio-economic issue. The fewer people in poverty, the less overall crime we have.

"Gun deaths" are simply a tool-expanded look at violent crime. They are already statistically irrelevant in the grand scheme of things (about 10-12k/year in a nation of 320M).

This may sound cold, but "gun deaths" is not the correct question. When we look at the correct question, we realize that it is self-correcting.

I take it we're going for the "low-hanging" fruit approach...

Fairly simple: unload the damn things and store the weapons and ammunition separately. You know, basic "responsible gun owner/gun safety" crap.

That's from googling "accidental shootings" this morning.

#1 - Bring back firearms education in the school system. We train our children how to properly operate a 2500 lbs, murder/killing machine under the guise of "Drivers Safety" which is a privilege not a right. And driven by insurance companies to lower claims cost.
#2 _ Enforce the laws already on the books.

To honestly answer the question, I need to know what kind of gun deaths? Accidental deaths vs intentional deaths.

There are many laws already on books regarding accidental deaths (at least in California). They range from properly securing firearms in a home to not storing guns in vehicles. The answer to reducing accidental deaths is education.

As far as intentional gun deaths, that is more about putting bad guys in jail and keeping them there. In California, violent crime is in the rise after many years of decline. Coincidentally, that also matches our recent trend of letting criminals out of prison at a unprecedented pace, reducing punishment for crime, and making former felonies into misdemeanors.

Mandatory gun safety course as a prerequisite to gun ownership.

Harsher punishment for repeat offenders of any kind of violence especially weapon violence, getting rid of gun free zones, and making constitutional carry across all 50 rates.
