President Obama has nominated Gen. Robin Rand to be the first four-star commander of Air Force Global Strike Command, the Air Force said Thursday.

I say it is a good move, SSG Norman Lihou. Something needs to be done to bring that group under control. It seems there has been one PR mess after another. Maybe a four-star General will help straighten things out.

I will echo the comment by CW5 Private RallyPoint Member that it was a good move. Not only is good for Gen Robin Rand but for the command. An outside set of eyes may see things that internal career fields may overlook.

I agree CW5 Scott Montgomery that a move l Ike this should give a boost of confidence and needed leadership to this unit that has come under fire for its recent problems.

I think I'd have to see it the other way - especially if I was in that command.

I thought we were getting away from the Fighter Pilot mafia of the late 90's early 2000's?

If I was a career nuke/bomber guy, I'd feel a little insulted that the AF basically says they can't find anyone within that community to lead the command and had to bring in someone from another AFSC.

I'm not questioning Gen Rand's leadership ability in the least here, just stating how I think I'd feel about this.

For one, I know it actually made me feel better when Gen Wolfenbarger got command of AFMC. It was nice to have a career acquisitions corps member in charge of Materiel Command and the majority of our acquisitions.
