What is the fastes promotion rate from Specialist to Sergeant in the Army? Is going to the board still required?

Do you mean which MOS? Infantry is the fastest overall. Why would you be focused on promoting to E5? You should be looking at E7-E9 unless you're intending to be a terminal SGT.

I’m speaking in general sergeant. I was recently promoted to SPC and am curious to see how fast I can make it to SGT to promote up the ranks faster and one day become CSM.

PFC (Join to see) in that case, definitely start looking at the AAR comments for E7-E9 for your MOS in the HRC Enlisted promotions web site. Promotion eligibility for E5 and E6 is measured in months, where there is only one board a year for senior enlisted. That means, don't focus on promoting fast for those next two ranks. Focus on the things you'll need for the higher ranks like a consistent 270 PT score, military education, and degree. That way once you get your first look you can make it in the secondary zone.

Are you chasing rank, money, or responsability? Just be great at your job.

Master Sergeant my intentions are to be the best soldier I can be. The reasoning for my desire to promote is to have the responsibility of leading and molding future soldiers in the Army to be better soldiers

I went from E-1 to E-5 n less than Three and a Half years in the USAF but since I didn't want to re-up they gave me a six month early out. That was in '68 when my bonus would have been enough to buy a new Corvette but they would have sent me back to 'Nam and I had already had my fill.
