What steps do I need to take, or who do I talk to, to get an RE-4 code changed?

I was given an re-4 code a few years ago after being discharged from the navy. Im my eyes that was a harsh code for someones first offense. Honestly i was surprised they actually discharged me. I miss everything about it. I need help on what to do, like what steps do i need to take or who i need to talk to about getting it changed? Any help or advice would be great.

Army National Guard should be able to take you. But DO NOT, take it for granted! Most branches will take your last period of service. So, go GUARD pull your head out of where it is and do the right thing.

1. Your opinion of the matter doesn't matter. 2. 1st Offense- 15th offense- UCMJ does not differentiate-You can be punished just as hard for 1 as you could the 3rd. 3. It takes a large chunk of the Command to discharge you, not just 1 or 2 officers. 4. You see a recruiter- see if you are eligible for a waiver or not and go from there.

Honestly you need to appeal to your branch to get your RE-4 waived. If not you are pretty much screwed as I don't think anyone will even entertain you with that code. You can talk to a recruiter as it doesn't hurt, but honestly don't get your hopes up. It takes a lot to get out on a RE-4 code so there might be more to the story than you are saying.

If an involuntary separation you will be ineligible for a waiver.

Usually with re4 code, there is no changing it, it bars you from reentering the military and getting it changed it even harder and most times they will not change it. You can appeal to review board but the likihood of getting it changed is 0 to none, you can get attorney that specialize military law to see what they can do for you. Good luck I hope it works out for you.

What's the rest of the story on why you got the code?. Did you get a court-martial? That is the only reason I could see you getting a RE-4 for a first offense. If you did, I could see that code being assigned as they threw you out in which case you chances of getting it change are extremely slim to none. Kind of like winning the lottery, little to none.

A waiver for an RE4 is possible but not guaranteed. There are deciding factors the military will take into consideration, strength being one, the need for your specialty is another. The big one, however, is your SPD code. The RE is not necessarily the biggest hurdle requiring the waiver to reenlist. Your SPD code is. If the SPD is non waivable, there is no option beyond that. You need to speak to a recruiter. You can appeal your RE code, but if your SPD code is not waivable your RE code being upgraded will not matter.
