Your question is deceptively disguised and fraudulent. You're not being barred for attending college, that's just how you framed the question. You're being barred because under the new promotion policy the commander is not authorized to recommend non-promotion once you hit the mandatory integration list. You chose to attend college and failed to study. Your job is the Army, not college. As a leader in the Army you should be aware of the promotion policy that went into effect 5 months ago because it affects you and all your Soldiers. So, yes you're being barred because you're not recommended for future potential. Frankly, the fact that you would attempt to shirk your responsibility for your role in this and dress this question up as, "I'm being barred because I'm in college" when it's clearly not the truth, tells me you lack the personal responsibility and accountability to lead Soldiers. As you said, you plan on getting out and the choices you've made are working towards that. I understand you want to "keep your options open" but in real life, the further down the path you go, the more options that close. Good luck in your civilian career.

As always, you and I see this the same way. I have been seeing questions like this more frequently as time goes by and the number of RP members willing to call it like it is seems to be shrinking. Some of these Soldiers seem to believe that the military is a back up plan that will always be willing to take them up until everything else has fallen through. The reality of the situation is that the military is a career just like many others and I know of no civilian careers in which the boss is going to sit on their hands while some low level laborer weighs each and every option for a year; the military needs to fill leadership slots and if there is something that takes that much precedence in your life than you probably shouldn't be given the opportunity.

While I sympathize, I have to ask, did you fail to meet a duty commitment because of you academic prowess. Your first responsibility is to your military requirements. Many others have decent points but I have seen no one ask. As for not passing a board, the reason should not be that you did not have time to study based on your academic desires. Also, waiting until the last minute to decide your path is also not adviseable. Your future with the Armybis a partnership, units generally do support personal growth because in the end of the day it enhances soft skills; however, the priority is the mission. Thank you for your service.

Thank you for the response CSM. I have not failed any duty requirements or commitments. In fact I'm currently on contract with a special duty assignment at ARCENT on an AFB and am 1 of 7 11B's on the base. We are all doing College Full-time as this would be the only time I believe (if I stay in) that I could obtain a BA. But I have never said "NO" or "I refuse to" in regards to anything the military has put in front of me. They have never told me I am going to the board either. The mission has always been prioritized which is why I have only been doing school online as to work around the military. Again thank you for your insight and thank you for your service.

CPL (Join to see) - this is absolutely NOT the last chance for you to get your degree. maybe you don't want to go part-time, but that is how 99% of us working adults do it. you have to figure out where your priorities are. if it is education, the get out and go to school. if it is the military, then tell your command you want to reenlist. keep going to school, just go part time or what your duty schedule will allow. there are numerous colleges that offer online classes. i got my bachelor's and never stepped onto the campus of the university.

That is messed up for anyone in the service. An education should be a positive thing not a reason to not re-enlist. I hope you find out what you need to. Good luck to you either way..
