What are the chances I can re-enlist as a 39 year old with an honorable discharge from the ARNG and an RE-3 MG code?

I’m 39 have an honorable discharge from the ARNG with a re enlistment code RE-3 MG. What are the chances I can re enlist? Am I too old for a re enlistment? Anyone here able to answer this question?

It's possible to get a waiver. Only a recruiter can tell you what the chances are in any given month.

If you have been out for 2 yrs or more, your 68W MOS is no longer valid, you would need to go through an AIT for 68W or any other MOS.

If you want a definitive answer, talk to a recruiter.

Regarding your age .. "it depends". Typically the max age is 35 (each Service has a max age policy for active duty, but if you want to go back in the ARNG it is 64*), however prior service time is subtracted from this when you reenlist. In other words, if you had four or more years of service, then that would put you under the max age. In some cases you can waiver an age requirements, but those are very few in number and there usually has to be a compelling "needs of the government" situation.

For your RE-3 MG - you'll probably have to show why your medical condition doesn't apply anymore and/or get a waiver for that in order to meet the physical/mental medical standards for enlistment.

Age is one of those "well, in this case the law prevents you, but there is this exception over here, but it doesn't quite apply, however if you have this and that, then we can talk" type of things. Again, talk to a recruiter - they are the only ones that will be able to give you a definitive answer.

Never heard of that RE code, maybe NG only, Most all RE3 will require a waiver and you maybe over the age. Only a recruiter can give you the facts- link up!

All I can do is share my experiences with this exact subject. Back in 1985 I had an RE4 reenlistment code that I had upgraded to an RE3 so I could join the USAR, so that part is possible. Back in 2006 I joined the NG at the ripe old age of 42. The only age constraint was I had to have my 20 years in by the time I was 55. I met the age criteria, got all the wavers, and I'm now happily retired looking at drawing my pension and retired Tricare next year.

A good NG recruiter is going to be critical to making this happen because it's a lot of time and paperwork. All branches of the Army are pretty hard up for quality recruits, so if there are no major red flags you should be good to go.
