I remember getting a phone call one afternoon when I was in the Delayed Entry Program, prior to shipping out to Boot Camp.
I answered my parent's house phone. Person on the other end asks to speak to me.
Me: "Speaking."
Them: "Good afternoon Seaman Recruit Miller. This is Rear Admiral Soandso from Naval Recruiting District Michigan. How are you doing today?"
Me: "What's up dude? I'm doing great..."
Yes, I called an Admiral "dude!" I called my recruiter shortly afterward and relayed the conversation to him.
"Hey Mike. Some Admiral guy called me and talked about my joining the Navy..."
My recruiter: "You didn't call the Admiral dude did you???"
Me: "Uh... yeah..."
My recruiter called me into his office to give me some remedial "Officer recognition" training and how to talk to them. Luckily my ass was still in one piece afterwards! :)
