Reassignment to assist in grandmothers care-taking?

My grandmother had a stroke and will be moving in with my family for around the clock care. I am currently on projections to bliss, but getting reassigned to Bragg would make it so I can go home and assist my mother on weekends. Would I need to request a compassionate reassignment or would that not work because she isn’t immediate family, or would contacting HRC directly help. I’ve gotten different answers from my Chain of Command.

SPC Private RallyPoint Member the reference is AR614-200, Chapter 5. Recommend reading the regulation your self in case there is something else that applies.

From para 5-11
"c. Compassionate consideration will be given only for Family members. A Family member includes spouse, child, parent, minor brother or sister, person in loco parentis, or the only living blood relative of the Soldier. Other persons, including parents-in-law, may also be considered provided they are documented as authorized Family members (see AR 600–8–14). If the problem is based on conditions of the parents-in-law, there must be no other Family members of the spouse's Family to help solve the problem."

It's not like Bragg doesn't need ten level soldiers. It may Be worth going to your chain of command and working your branch manager, even though this isn't exactly a compassionate reassignment criteria. It's not like Bragg is a kick back duty station, Bliss will be heartbroken for 5 nano seconds and a new 14T will be on orders. Is there a Patriot unit on Bragg for you to go to?

You won't be eligible for a compassionate because she's not immediate family. You can find the information in AR 614-200.
You might be able to get a sympathetic branch manager to switch you up assignments if you ask early enough.
