Reclassifying to 11B , why am I being sent to a two week reclass school in Pennsylvania instead of Benning OSUT?

Because it is shorter, and thus cheaper. Most of the knowledge you learn in MOSQ can be learned by reading FM 3-21.8. The real skills are learned training with your unit and listening to the critiques of those who have done the job for awhile. Best of luck; have fun!

Money. Two weeks are cheaper than 8-9 at Benning. You already know the basic soldiering, how to get screwed with, how to shoot, etc.

Everything that is taught in the MOS specific portion of infantry OSUT is taught in those two weeks. I can't say all, but I can say my guys deliver it in such a way that is more conducive to learning. They will not stand over you hollering for shits and giggles. Like I said, you're beyond that.

It's face paced and tiring, but very good 10 level training. You'll enjoy it. Learn everything that you can, have fun, take it back to your unit and build on the foundation you'll get while in PA.

The National Guard runs some schools in addition to those ran by the Regular Army. They are all certified just as every other course in the Army. The NG will run done MOSQ courses locally. This is only done as a reclass only. It is much less complicated and saves your State a lot of funds. After a while you will see some Regular Army guys in some National Guard courses.

I did that in 2005, switching from chemical to infantry. It was a good course and you learn the basics. As some have said, those skills will be reinforced through reading FM3.21.8 and working with your unit. But it was a great course. Infantry MOSQ helped me understand the difference between reacting to a close in ambush and a far off one. The drill sergeants in chemical basic in 2002, before Jessica Lynch.....LOL, taught us only the reaction to close in, and when another platoon was hit by a far off ambush, they reacted with close in only to get yelled at by the drill sergeant with a lot of deer in the headlight looks. Infantry MOSQ helped me to understand the difference. So its a good course to take.

To teach you the basics but once you get to your unit they should have SOPs in place so you can jump in and learn how they do things everywhere you go things will be different

I'll give you the short answer; because National Guard and US Army Reserves save money by running their own schools. It also creates full time jobs for them, or exercises reserve training units. Additonally, ATTRS slots for many reclassified positions are hard to come by, especially since the majority of the quotas go to the Regular Army. If your being cross leveled from another unit or MOS I wouldn't be too concerned. You'll get the broad strokes and much like RA training, you'll learn (or should learn!) the most important stuff from training with you unit. Same MOS award, less money, that's juat the way its done...what you choose to do with that training oppertunity is on you. Don't feel bad, Regular Army soldiers occasionally get squeezed into Reserve Training slots due to quota availability and/ or mission timehacks...and yet somehow, the Army goes marching along.
Look at the bright side, at least you didn't have to climb Sand Hill 689 times...

Because you are only taking the AIT / reclass portion. Basic and AIT can be a long stretch but my infantry AIT was only 2 weeks on my OSUT Experiance.

If you feel you need more door kicking do what I did. Make friends with some rangers, sf, and marsoc dudes and go practice breaching and stuff on their private range. Good luck out there.

It's typical of 11b reclass to be sent to a two week mup course (not sure if that's the right spelling). I assume it's cheaper and easier for the guard. Simply because you may have to wait longer if you were sent to Benning.

On a personal note I don't think you get the full 11b experience without going to Benning though. Its My opinion but welcome to the bother hood.

Sounds like you are going to 166th RGT at Ft Indiantown Gap? They run a NCOES there among other things. Nice facilities. You'll get good training there.

Even when Regular Army servicemembers reclass into infantry they only do the "AIT phase." So they go into the cycle in the last 4 weeks. The biggest thing the guard mos-q does is cut the FTX to just a couple days.
