Would you prefer to take on the responsibility and challenges of becoming a Warrant officer in your chosen field and perfecting your skill, make more money and be the expert. Or would you prefer to go the other route, become a recruiter, basically control where you are stationed and help out your community and work with kids. I have known some who thrived and other who struggled on the recruiting trail. SGT Jim Z. I reviewed your profile and think becoming a Warrant is a really good idea for a couple reasons. 1) I think intelligence is an excellent branch for Warrants. Each branch: aviation, SF, intell etc., has it's own nuanced definition for warrants -- and I the majority of Intel Warrants I have worked with seem to enjoy their role. 2) You have a degree in organizational management. As a Warrant you will accept additional leadership roles and broaden your military resume. This experience, in conjunction with your degree, may prove to be beneficial after retirement. At the end of the day, you know yourself and your long term goals, but I don't regret the decision at all. Best of luck! Hands down, become a warrant officer. I've had the opportunity to do recruiting duty and I considered putting in a WO or OCS packet. My recruiting time fell during the end of the TOXIC, "Get my numbers" era to the beginning of station missions and set hours. My first 16 months were rough. I was able to put in at least one contract a month, but my station commander was always on my back. Until I found my niche and made a name for myself in the community. That was the key during the TOXIC era. Every recruiter is different and had to find their individual niche to make mission.

Nowadays, recruiters have set hours; they don't work on weekends unless there is an applicant at the MEPS on a Saturday. You are not a one Soldier processing machine. The stations are broken down and each recruiter has certain responsibilities. Most of my battle buddies that switched to 79Rs love it now compared to when we first started.

As everyone has mentioned, Warrant Officers are the "Go to Techs" in their profession. There are great opportunities for training; certifications; schools; etc for Warrants. If you are looking at making a career after retirement in your current MOS, I would suggest the WO packet. If you are not sure, but know you love leading Soldiers and want diversity for career progression, I would go Recruiting. Volunteer packets will get one of the top 3 BN choices, but it's not guaranteed you will get to go where you want. Hope this is beneficial to you. Feel free to shoot me a message if you have more questions about recruiting. I regret not going CID years ago when I could have. Recruiting is a crap shoot. Land in the right station and you'll love it. Land in the wrong one and you may lose faith in the Army. It almost ended my career, but I fell into the latter. I will tell you 350F needs solid applicant to apply. If your endstate is Warrant Officer go then drop a packet.

1SG Private RallyPoint Member Wed, 20 Mar 2019 05:18:09 -0400 2019-03-20T05:18:09-04:00 2015-02-18T06:31:02-05:00
