He was a prior service Navy who ETS'd Navy, then later joined the Army. Will he have to ETS or is there a reenlistment option for him? I know that he'll have to have a RE1 code on his DD214, just want any information RP can give. As far as I know he would have to ETS first before he could go into the Navy, there is no cross-service enlistment options that I know of or have ever heard of, except of if you are going from active to reserve/guard or visa-versa.

You are correct in him having to have the RE1 code to enlist/reenlist though, but again I would recommend him speaking with a Navy recruiter 1st before committing to ETS from the Army just in case they don't have anything for him, I guess my 1st question would be why, if he is already in active Army why would he be looking to get out and switch back to the Navy, does he not have the motivation or career options available to him in the Army since he is already in?
Response by SFC James Baber made Mar 10 at 2014 8:16 PM 2014-03-10T20:16:39-04:00 2014-03-10T20:16:39-04:00 SR Private RallyPoint Member 438569

If I were to get rerated from ATC what other rates should I choose? What is he looking for and is the Navy able to find what he is wanting in his time frame. He will probably have ETS 90 days (when you discharge, subject to recall within 90 days? ) . Then Navy must get permission from Army Reserves to bring him in, if I am not mistaken…even if he is inactive reserve ( 4 year tour; 2-4 year inactive reserve obligation still around???)
Its been awhile.
