Hello. I was medically separated last August from Navy boot camp for stress fractures. I am in the process of rejoining but I am having some trouble. There was some wording on my medical records that MEPS is misreading. For some reason, they are trying to say that I am ineligible to join any branch of the military every again. They keep rejecting my medical prescreen. My recruiter is currently going through my records again to see what we can do but I am trying to do everything I can to get approved. I just want a chance to see a MEPS doctor to prove that I am fine. There are other parts of my medical records where my boot camp doctors have written that I should be healed and fit for full duty by certain dates. My reentry code is an RE-8 so I am enlist again with a medical waiver. The issue is, I can't apply for that waiver until MEPS allows me to go for a consult and clears me. They won't let me. It's quite frustrating. I refuse to give up though, because I know that I meet the requirements to rejoin and complete boot camp. I want that chance. I sent a letter to my congressman this morning to see if he could help but does anyone else have any ideas of what I could do? I know a lot of waiting and patience is involved but I just want to feel like I can do something and that I am not just sitting around. Thanks in advance for any ideas or advice.

Sgt (Join to see) - He messaged me back and said he was unable to help me. Thanks for the recommendation though.

About 50% of my recruit accessions when I was a Navy recruiter were waivers. I suspect your only chance of getting any future serious look will be a written consultation from an orthopedic surgeon on your dime. Then your recruiter will need to submit that document with the recuting packet asking for a waiver by BUMEDS, Bureau of Medicine. MEPS most likely can not waiver your RE code. My longest BUMED waiver was 13-months, my applicant used the Dallas Cowboys Ortho doctor for his examination; BUMED came through for him and he too was a retread.

Good luck!

Thank you! I am cringing about having to pay out of pocket for a medical exam because I don't have insurance but I'll just have to suck it up and do it. My recruiter made it seem like I could just go to medical and get a consult done.

Regarding your comment about a current lack of funds to pay out of pocket for medical appointment with doctor to give current opinion regarding your injury... If you are in a military rich environment such as Tidewater/Hampton Roads you could try looking at doctors' web sites or calling their offices. There may be a veteran or retiree doctor (or a medic or corpsman who got out and became a doctor, etc.) who will see you for free or reduced fee if they are so inclined due to having a positive feeling towards their military service experience. It's worth a try. Just a suggestion.

I hadn't thought of that. I will call around and see. I live in the Norfolk area so it's worth a try.
