Request for Military Records

This is directed to Veterans.
I submitted a request for copies of my 201 file, DD214 and all my Military Awards on May 2014.
Through the NPRC at St Louis, MO.

I was wondering if any Veteran here did the same.
My question is about how long did it take you to receive your request?

you can log into my ebenifits and download your ompf from your "access my documents if you have a DS login.

It took me 6 weeks to get my records.

It took a little longer to get my grandfather's records.

Thank you all for your responses, I just got an email thinking it was going to take longer, but to my surprise it read as follows:

Thank you for contacting the National Personnel Record Center. We have received your request for information and we are working on your request. The estimated date of completion is approximately 9/4/2014. Please allow 5-7 business days mailing time.

I did the same. It took me a couple of months and the records I got were incomplete and most of them were multiple copies of records. They really don't take the time to gather all the records. The main records I was looking for, my medical records, were not included.

I got mine in a couple of months and my DD 214 in six months.

For 214's it should take approximately 20 days, that's what we tell our veterans. Unless the file was in the '74 fire it shouldn't take much longer. Awards take much longer and we still haven't heard back on some of those requests.

Good morning SSG Pabon! I'm new to RallyPoint and this is my first post. I was browsing the list of discussions and noticed yours. Because your initial post was 6 months ago, I'm assuming you have received what you requested. I requested my father's records many years ago to create a memorial for him and although it has been some time ago I believe to took approximately 6 weeks to receive his records which were limited. I was surprised that they included replacement medals that he was awarded. I hope this gives you some help! Semper Fi

Another resource for Veteran's to get access to records is through DPRIS.

What is DPRIS? (Defense Personnel Records Information Retrieval System)

DPRIS is an electronic gateway that allows authorized users to access the Services' Official Military Personnel File (OMPF) records management systems online in a secure and efficient manner. Veterans and Service members with a valid DS Logon Level 2 credentials can access their OMPF information.

Personnel and Readiness Information Management (P&R IM), Office of the Under Secretary of Defense (Personnel and Readiness) (OUSD(P&R)), has developed DPRIS, as a single enterprise gateway, to provide access to vital military personnel information on demand and in near real-time through secure system-to-system interfaces and Web access by employing leading edge technologies, including all aspects of information assurance.

Types of Information Available via DPRIS
Users are allowed to make requests based on common functional needs, without needing to know Service-specific document identifiers. DPRIS provides a functionally-oriented, standard request format across all Service systems, regardless of specific business process requirements or unique Service document identification.

OMPF information is categorized into four groupings:

Service Computation Group
Performance Group
Professional History Group
Administrative Group

Individual Service Members and Veterans desiring access to their OMPF now have access to DPRIS via the Department of Defense/Department of Veterans Affairs eBenefits portal using a CAC or DS Logon account.
